South Florida Back-to-Back Regionals
Key Largo
.
On February 9th and February 10th, the "Chili in the Village" and the "Florida Keys Chili Cookoff" Regionals took place at Rowe's Marina in Key Largo Florida. As in the past, the Rotary Club did their typical superb job.
This year, in addition to their traditional Sunday's Florida Keys Chili Cookoff event, when the Village of Pinecrest was unable to do so, the Rotaries stepped up to host Saturday's Chili in the Village, thus preserving the back-to-back events. A huge thank you is in order from all ICS chili cooks.
New for this year, festivities kicked off with a cooks' party Friday evening. Unfortunately, because of prior commitments, I was unable to attend; however, all reports indicate it was a great start to the chili weekend.
Saturday (and Sunday), the weather lived up to February in the Keys – drop dead gorgeous; sunshine, low 70s in the morning, low 80s for a high. Add the waterside location, the entertainment, the great crowds…and chili cooking doesn't get any better.

Two superb cookoffs in every respect. Congratulations and thanks to the Rotary Club.
Additional thanks to all the wonderful ICS cooks who participated; without chili cooks, there are no chili cookoffs. After some of the hardest tables I've ever had the privilege of judging; CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS!
Finally, a special mention. According to my reading of "Dick's Unofficial List", it appears that Dave Lorenz's wins in Salsa and Chili Verde will make him the first HAT TRICK WINNER of the 2008 Chili Season – Congratulations Dave!
