Bakersfield Optimist Club Chili Cookoff

The weather and setting were great at the 2nd Annual Bakersfield Optimist Club Chili Cookoff. The venue had changed from last year, and I think it has found its new home at The Dome in Bakersfield. They were gracious hosts; and Walter from the Optimist Club made sure we had everything we needed in the judging area.

A special thanks to Norm and Bobbie Gaul for coming in from Nevada to help me with the scoring and judging. Norm even read the ballots to us for the Salsa and Verde contests, after he judged!!! Thanks soooo much!!! I put Sylvia Steinberg to work reading the red ballots after she finished judging as well. Hey, get help from the best I always say!!

Jim and Eileen Beaty were there to help in all that was needed, and did a remarkable job to make sure all ran smoothly throught the day.

If you haven't got your entries in yet or haven't yet decided whether you're coming well let me tell you you're going to miss a great Cookoff. Not only will there be great prize money but you'll be able to play the ponies while you're cooking your prize winning pot of chili. Now tell me, if this isn't great odds what is? Besides that, you'll get to see me again. Better yet there's a great Cooks Party at Roosters in Grove City Friday night before the Cookoff to welcome all the cooks.

.

There's a block of rooms reserved at the Red Roof Inn at 4055 Jackpot Rd. Grove City which is at the Stringtown Rd/I-71 Exit Grove City which is Exit 100. Rate is $57.99 + tax. You have to book your room by 4/11 to receive this special rate. Just mention the Beulah Park Chili Cookoff to get the special rate.

.

Rooster's, where the Friday night party in being held is within a stones throw of the Motel and the Motel is 3 miles from the Cookoff. There's a Wal-Mart in the area and also a Kroger's if you need supplies. So get those entries in so you don't miss out on this great Cookoff.
