High Sierra Regional Results, Carson City, NV
Beautiful day, a little warm but tempered with an afternoon breeze. The lawn around Glen Eagles Restaurant had a real festive atmosphere with over 40 cooking booths, 25 crafters, and concessions. Live music all day and the cutest, ugliest, most resemble the owner, and best trick dog contest drew many people and was a big hit. We even made the front page of the local paper with a picture of the Carson City mayor and his dog. Someone remarked that they had to put in a caption to identify which was the mayor and which was the bulldog. We had cooks from Texas, Oregon, Idaho, California and Nevada.

Nevada Capitol Regional Results, Carson City, NV
Another warm day but cooking on grass and under big trees helped. We raised about $10,000 for the soon to be opened Cancer Care Center at the Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center. This will be a state-of-the-art treatment facility with family cottages for the patient and family to stay during treatment. Volunteers from the hospital sold tasting kits and raffle tickets, the staff of Glen Eagles donated their time and tips both days, local merchants and most of the purveyors to Glen Eagles provided raffle prizes, food and drink so that all proceeds went directly to the Cancer Care Center. With cancer awareness the theme both days, it was touching that our champion of Sunday's cookoff is the ICS cook most aware of this devastating disease, having lost both her husband and son to it.

Fire on the Mountain Results

.

The Fire on the Mountain Regional Cookoff, Snowshoe West Virginia, was yet another great success by the folks of Snowshoe Resort. Held on Friday July 7th and Saturday July 8th, the event at the top of the mountain – 4848 ft. – even had Mother Nature cooperate with “Chamber of Commerce” weather on both days; sunny and 70’s during the day, chili at night (no pun intended…well, maybe a small pun).

.

Festivities kicked off with Salsa and Verde on Friday (afternoon – civilized cookoff); a great outdoor Cooks Party that evening in a tent on the slopes; Traditional Red on Saturday (late morning stove lighting – again civilized). The new person in charge, Jason Scotchie, picked up seamlessly from where Joe Stevens left off; he also had the good sense to invite Joe back to the cookoff (from Charleston where he and Angie moved) to help…and help he most certainly did.

.

Now for the results:

Salsa (16 cooks)

3rd Lauren Staley

2nd Janie Bauer

1st Larry Lentz ($500)

.

Verde (26 cooks)

Unfortunately, I don’t have the 10 cooks on the Finals Table. I can tell you that it was one of the toughest tables I have had the privilege of judging; every chili reminiscent of the Finals Table at the WCCC!

3rd Lauren Staley

2nd Larry Lentz

1st Gail Donovan ($500)

.

Traditional Red (64 cooks)

Finals Table (15)

Janie Bauer, Matt Bush, Larry Summey, Ghon Eckley, Mel Fletcher, Tonya Simmons, Hershall Mullins, Bill Donovan, Diane Lentz, Kris King, Brian Warmuth, Sam Schola, Jim Parker, Carrie Lentz, David Malory

4th Bill Donovan

3rd Brian Warmuth

2nd Larry Summey

1st Diane Lentz ($10,000) + Hat Trick!

.

Congratulations to the organizers, the cooks and the winners! Lord willing…looking forward to next year.
