New Mexico State Championship Chili Cookoff - Paul Whitney
What a fantastic day! No one, myself included, could have forseen the incredible turnout we had at the New Mexico State Championship Chili Cookoff, hosted by the Sky City Casino in Acoma, NM. Brooks Jordon and Bianca Mitchell from the casino and their staff did a great job of setting up the site, handling helping out in the judges area and making all the cooks, new and old, feel welcome at their event. Weather was clear, very little wind and temps in the high 80's. Those who stayed at the hotel were given a very good room rate and the quality of the hotel with the casino is excellant. Before I go on, I have got to thank the many people who are ICS regulars who came and helped in the judging area or took time away from their booths to judge any event they would be eligible to judge: Pete and Nicole Caimi, who drove over from Las Vegas for the event. Nicole took on Chief Scorekeeper duties and performed marvelously. Pete was my right hand man in the judging area and we put his taste buds to good use on the red chili and tie breaking for verde and salsa. Bob and Kathy Plager were also of great assistance in the judging area and both judged red. Cooks who took part were Steve and Bonnie Tomasek, Mike and Kay Rook, Larry Weltikol, James Rasey, Al Henry and George Lott. Jinny Kost helped out also.
We have got some good winners representing the Land of Enchantment in Omaha and they are as follows:

Old Route 66 Regional Shirts
Jinny Kost of Pine AZ is making a special quilt which will be raffled off at our 25th Annual Silver Anniversary Route 66 Regional Chili Cookoff nest summer. She'll be using parts of old Route 66 Cookoff shirts for the quilt. One we are searching for had the old script Pepsi Cola logo on it and it was a baseball style jersey, with blue sleeves and a white central part. If anyone has this shirt please let me know. GolfNChili@aol.com Thanks!
