Outlaw Chili Challenge, District Cookoff

Here are the tallies for Sunday, February 17^th's winners in the Outlaw Chili Challenge, a district cookoff with 15 cooks held in Huntington, WV at Chili Willi's.

Salsa:

3^rd place: Ron Smith, Huntington, WV

2^nd place: Laurin Staley, Nicholasville, KY

1^st place: Chuck Hoff, Columbus, OH

Chili Verde:

3^rd place: Tonya Simmons, Milton, WV

2^nd place: Diane Lentz, Nicholasville, KY

1^st place: David Mallory, Kitts Hill, OH

.

Red Chili:

3^rd place: Richard Chauvin, Windsor, Ontario

2^nd place: David Staley, Nicholasville, KY

1^st place: Jean Simmons, St. Louis, MO

The cooks also voted on their first place favorite in each category. Funny how many picked themselves, but the consensus among cooks was:

Salsa: Chuck Hoff, Columbus, OH

Verde: Tonya Simmons, Milton, WV

Red Chili: Chuck Hoff, Columbus, OH

This event was staged as fundraiser for our dear friend Bill "Gumby" Donovan from Cincinnati, OH, who many of you know is fighting leukemia. The event raised $2443.00 that will be sent to the Donovan family to help with the many costs they are experiencing while Bill is sick and Gail is home caring for him. We have been contacted by many cooks from across the country who would like to send a donation to also help in supporting the Donovan's. Those donations may be sent to Chili Willi's who will act as a clearinghouse and forward all the donations on to Bill & Gail. Please make your checks out to either Bill or Gail Donovan with a notation in the memo section of your check. I know that they are very appreciative of all the kind support and prayers that the chili community has extended to them. We are all hopeful and positive that Bill will succeed in fighting this disease back and be on the chili trail again "Getting' the Party started" as he likes to say.
