Illinois State Fair Regional Chili cookoff

On a gorgeous last day of the 2008 Illinois State Fair Chili cooks worked to the sounds of Elvis (Himselvis), and huge crowds. The Cookoff has become a fixture for the last day of the fair, helping to make the fair's last day one of the large attendance days. We estimate there was 70,000-100,000 people attending the ARCA races, the Trace Atkins concert, the Abe's Amble road race and of course the cookoff. All cooks should consider this cookoff next year. Results are:

Rocky Mountain Regional and Colorado State Chili Cookoffs

The cookoffs are this coming weekend (August 23rd & 24th), in beautiful Winter Park, Colorado. That's 2 days of qualifiers (6 chances). Saturday, besides traditional red, chili verde, and salsa, there will once again be a "Guac-off" Guacamole division. A trophy will be given to the first place winner.

.

The cookoffs are at the base of the Winter Park Ski Resort, and it's one of the most awesome spots to cook at in the country (at 9000 ft). Rooms are available in Winter Park, with a 10% chilihead discount given when you call Winter Park Central Reservations @1-800-977-6198.

.

Cash and trophies will be awarded to 1st through 3rd places in each division, each day. Judges that come out year after year are experienced, and do a fine job in the judging area.

RELAY FOR LIFE

8/16/2008

I just wanted to say thank you to all the Chiliheads that supported me this year for the Relay for Life. And, thanks to all of you I won for raising the most funds by an individual ($1840.00). Our team also won for raising the most money by a team (14,000,00) and for the most people on their team (86). I also want to thank my husband Norm for his support and help, which makes it possible for me to do this. And, yes I lasted all night, from 6 PM to 6 AM.

A reminder to those with the Roundtoit disease. Been meaning to "get around to" sending in your Cooks Register information in? The deadline to be assured your information gets in the book is applications postmarked by August 20th. Did not receive a form? Bought a book last time, but don't one this time around? You might want to reconcider since changes and additions were made to just about every page. Please check your listing information for changes or additions for e-mail addresses, cell phone number and work numbers. These are what changes the most.
