AVI Back-2-Backs
It had rained all day at AVI on Thanksgiving. Friday morning there was more fog on the river than any of us had ever seen, then it burned off and we had a beautiful day. Saturday, we actually watched someone swimming in the river for quite a while. Yes, the swimmer had on a wet suit... but I had on socks. It was too cold for river swimming. We cooked in the grass up against the building. The cooks voted over whelmingly to try to keep the cookoff there in the future. Chairman Susie Baumberger did a great job of setting these cookkoffs up. Chief Judge Jim Maehl was there at 7am both days and in addition to the excellent job as such, he even managed to provide light so we cold read the comments on Saturday nite. Scorekeepers were Donnie Gordon, Nicole Caimi, Louise Dinneweth, Val Gereghty and we even hijacked Susie to observe on Sunday (another Chair gets a hint at what's involved in scoring). Ron Burt, Pete Caimi, Bob Dinneweth, and Sharue Johnson kept the judging area and tables in order.

Although the results have already been posted by Doug, I would like to add my two cents.
.
WOW!
.
Add a new sponsor, a new location, the same great "Chair-Team"…and a historically terrific cookoff rises to a NEW LEVEL! This occurred on Saturday, November 22nd at Harley-Davidson of
.
Over 30 ICS cooks gathered on a beautiful but "freezing" day (for a South Floridian) – a meteorological condition totally ignored by the "northern" contingent of cooks, with Rhone Carr, Dave Lorenz, Bob Hall and others running around in T-Shirts/shorts - for a superb day of chili and fun. Great crowd, great entertainment, the "Chili Chicks Dance Team" (more on this later), gleaming motorcycles galore, motorcycle "drill team", every vendor (food & otherwise) imaginable, plus tons of room at a magnificent and easily accessible location.
.
As a matter of fact, more than one long-time ICS cook commented that it would be an excellent location for the WCCC. I would agree for the most part (assuming sponsorship dollars); however, as a Floridian, I can't help worrying about an October date and hurricane season still in being…but it's a worthwhile thought nonetheless.
.
As mentioned previously, the Chili Chicks Dance Team was part of the entertainment. I'd like to expand on them further, because it may be of interest to other cookoff chairpersons.
.
The Chili Chicks are group of lovely gals organized by Robert Trepp, who made their first appearance at the Acredale Music Festival District Cookoff last April; a highly successful first time cookoff held just west of
.
In speaking with Robert, he mentioned that they would love doing more chili cookoffs. If someone is interested, contact Robert Trepp - Cardinal01@bellsouth.net, mobile: (772) 201-2593; believe me, they put on a great show.
In closing, let me heap multiple praises on Doug and Carolyn Roy. Not just for this fantastic event, but also for their tireless efforts over the many years; efforts which have culminated in this year's "extravaganza".
In our opinion, Chiliblast 2008 ranks among the premier Cookoffs/Festivals in the country. Most certainly among those that has been

WELL DONE and THANKS FROM ALL OF US IN THE CHILI COMMUNITY,
