New York City District Cookoff

.

This was the first cookoff in New York City in quite some time and the first in Staten Island. The Historic Richmond Town is an area that had once been the hub of Staten Island in the 1700's. It is now a living history and museum village. The folks running the cookoff were some of the nicest people we have encountered on a day that can be very stressful. Many thanks to Bob, David and Orly for their support and willingness to do anything to let this cookoff be one of the best. They had wonderful prize money and very enthusiastic spectators. The music was wonderful from a true old fashioned band (they had washboards, a singing saw, a jug, a pennywhistle, and much more), to a lovely young lady (9 years old) singing songs from Broadway. They had several kinds of wing-eating contests and most of all, Chili. The majority of the cooks were first-timers, and very happy ones. The weather was perfect and the crowds flowed in to taste chili. The judging was in the original Courthouse on the second floor. It was beautiful and historic and very fitting for a judged event. We were very happy to be able to help out this group for their first cookoff and look forward to coming back next year. This is a fantastic site and all the cooks had a great time.

Carson Valley #1 & #2

.

The Weather Gods smiled on us Saturday and Sunday. Four inches of snow 48 hours before the Carson Valley #1 & #2 cookoffs in Minden, Nevada and more expected 48 hours later. But the weekend was in the 70's. Thank you.The good weather brought out record crowds which also helped the 69 crafters in attendance. Dave and Kathy did their usual outstanding jobs as Chief Judge and Scorekeeper respectively with Bob & Julie Grayson showing up to help.
