CARSON CITY
.
Back2Backs July 3 & 4
.
Soroptimist International of Carson City came aboard two weeks ago as our charity when the former charity withdrew. Boy, what an active bunch of ladies! They have accumulated raffle prizes, assembled tasting kits, and recruited peoples' choice cooks, printed flyers, and canvassed the town promoting the High Sierra Regional on Saturday and the Nevada Capital Regional on Sunday.
We will again be cooking on the grass and under the trees at Glen Eagles Restaurant on the North end of Carson City. The weather is predicted to be in the mid-80's, at least 10 degrees cooler than the last several years. We've even arranged for a slight breeze for more comfort.
We need cooks in salsa, green, and red. If you are already qualified, come and help us celebrate the 4th and judge. Dry camping available at the site.

Winter Park, Colorado
Saturday, August 21st - Rocky Mountain Regional
Sunday, August 22nd - Colorado State
.
Plan now to come up to cool, sunny, and beautiful Winter Park, Colorado for 2 days of World qualifiers. For those flying in, flights can be booked into Denver at great prices right now. Saturday, besides traditional red, chili verde, and salsa, there will once again be a "Guac-off" Guacamole division. Prize money and a trophy will be given to the first place winner.
.
The cookoffs are at the base of the Winter Park Ski Resort, and it's one of the most awesome spots to cook at in the country (at 9000 ft). Rooms are available in Winter Park, with a 20% chilihead discount given when you call Winter Park Central Reservations @ 1-800-977-6198. Make sure you ask for the "20% off Winter Park Resort Lodging Properties discount."
.
Cash and trophies will be awarded to 1st through 3rd places in each division, each day. Judges that come out year after year are experienced, and do a fine job in the judging area.
.
Please register on-line. Letters and cookoff information will be sent out soon to cooks who have previously attended.

HERB HOLMAN
.
Last weekend Herb and Geneva traveled to Canyonville, Oregon for the double cookoffs. Sunday Geneva won red. They had been looking forward to staying in the beautiful RV park at 7 Feathers. Tuesday morning Herb suffered a stroke and was taken to Eugene, Oregon for surgery. Geneva had been making the round trips from Canyonville, 2 hours each way.
Saturday, yesterday, he had another stroke while in the hospital. Slowly coming out of it. They had hoped that he would be released next week, but now will be staying much longer.
.
Geneva and son Mitchell are moving the motorhome to RV parking on the hospital grounds tomorrow. Herb has to get better, he is our 2010 Virginia City red chili champion.
