Lake Arrowhead, CA District August 26, 2006
August 26th is the date, and Lake Arrowhead, CA is the place. Have you had enough heat and humidity, California cooks? How about a nice day in the Inland Empire mountains!
.
This is a new District cookoff. All three contests are offered with good prize money available to be won. The World's Championship is getting closer and closer. If you have a District win already, come on out and try to make it two to qualify for the World! At the very least you might win the cookoff and get a free entry fee into the Last Chance Cookoff on Friday in Omaha. There are even prizes for Best Booth and Best First Time Cook. Chief Judge, Mike Austin, is working closely with the Lake Arrowhead folks, and Karen Ray will be Chief Scorekeeper.

This is a nice venue at the Lake Arrowhead Village. The promoters are doing everything they can to make the cookoff comfortable for the contestants. Sign up on the ICS web site to compete, or tell Mike Austin or Karen Ray at the next chili cookoff.
.
See ya down the chili trail.

Idaho State - Charlie & Barbara Ward
We, Charlie & Barbara Ward, would like to send this message those who misunderstood about the way the Idaho State Chili Cookoff was run on July 29, 2006.

First of all, Marilee Barrett was ONLY the contact person. Marilee and her husband Joe had no part in running the event that day. Marilee entered the Salsa category and tied for 2nd Place. Joe entered the Traditional Red category and was 1st Place in this category.
The chili cookoff flyer that had been distributed since early May, stated that Chuck Anderson was the chairman; Charlie Ward was the Chief Judge, and Barbara Ward was the Scorekeeper. There were nine (9) salsa entrants and eight (8) traditional red cooks. This was more than enough for a sanctioned state cookoff.
We reiterate that Marilee & Joe Barrett were NOT involved whatsoever in the judging procedure. The only time they, as well as the other cooks, were in the judging area was at the cooks’ meeting and when the announcements were made.
