DESERT RAT REGIONAL

Once again Phil Morosky did an excellent job for the California City American Legion Post 476. He works on this all year... He and Pat make bibs for the cooks and volunteers in addition to everything else they do. And did everyone notice that the prize money was the same for Red & Green ($500, $300, $100).

.

The first motor home arrived on Wednesday. The weather was beautiful all three days I was there. And everyone associated with the Legion welcomed us as old friends and family. Competition began Friday with the beef stew which also served as dinner for many (and they were all good!). Saturday began with free breakfast provided by the Legion's Kitchen Crew for the cooks and volunteers. Once again Phil assembled an awesome team of volunteers: Capt Jim Maehl, Chief Judge - Scorekeepers: Donnie Gordon, Pat Morosky, MaryEllen Weber and Edi Gumfudgin - Emcee, Claude Covington (who not only did a great job, but came to fill in for Mike Austin who is still spending most of his time at the hospital with Maria) - Wranglers: Willma Maehl and Dirty Ole Phil Himself in Charge. After the cookoff the Legion always has a dinner. This year it was a Cornish Game Hen with salad, rice, beans and cake for $8. Lots of food and good eatin'. And the winners are:
