Main Street Tehachapi Cookoff

What a wonderfully successful cookout this was. Michelle Vance did a remarkable job organizing and suppling everything needed to make this cookoff run smoothly, and it was her first time dealing with chili cooks!! She truly listened to her mentors Jim and Eileen Beaty, as well as Bill and Karen Ray, and did not disappoint Also, what great weather we had..a light breeze and not too high a temperature made this a very easy day to like. Everyone, except for maybe Phil Morosky had a good time ALL day. It seems that the parking lot cement bumper Phil had successfully managed to miss all day turned out to trip him in the end. Thank God Lauren Beller had a first aid kit available to assist in closing the gash on his head and nose. The police called in the paramedics to complete the job and to make sure Phil was alright. He was just embarrassed. I asked him what he wanted me to say about the incident, and he said "tell everyone the other guy looks worse"!! Sheila Beller took pictures with Phil's camera, so I expect we'll see the pretty picture of good ole Phil. I'm glad he's alright.
We only had red chili this year, but Michelle promises to add Verde and Salsa next year and make everyone even happier to compete!!
I want to thank all of those who came to judge for us and would like more to come out next year to enjoy the day. It was great seeing Mary Renfrow and Char Sweeney supporting this cookoff.

We has a three way tie for Fifth which was not broken, and because I didn't bring the scoring tally sheet home, I can't tell you who the 3 cooks were! OOPS!

Route 66 Regional Chili Cookoff

Well, another one is in the books! What a glorious day in Flagstaff, Arizona! Sunny, almost cloudless day, temperatures in the mid 80's, almost no wind to speak of. Could not ask for anything better. 21 red cooks, 15 verde cooks and 13 salsas were entered with folks coming in from Texas, Nevada, California, Colorado and of course, Arizona. Chief Judge and Scorefkeeper Bob and Louise Dinneweth came up from Kingman along with the usual suspects from the Lake Havasu Chili Checkers to run the judging area. But let me digress back to Friday night. We had a tremendous cooks dinner at sponsor's Salsa Brava Mexican Restaurant. With family and friends we had over 30 chili people eating some of the best Mexican food in town and enjoying each others company before going to battle the next day. Back to the cookoff. We had 5 new cooks firing it up for the first time, all of whom were a welcome addition to the ICS family. When the smoke had cleared, all the tasting was done and the judging ended, the results were as follows.
