Red Bluff Roundup Regional
What a perfect day for a chili cook off. Sunny, light breeze and 75 for the high. Along with the nice weather we welcomed 8 new chili cooks to the ICS. Besides all the chili teams there were pony rides for the kiddies and a super car show for the older kiddies. The California Highway Patrol had a dunk tank and called it "Dip a CHiP". For a dollar you had two tries to dunk a CHP officer in the dunk tank. I bet they made a lot of money.
.
A big thank you to Fritz Rubins, Chief Scorekeeper. Thank you to Skip and Dione Cooley, who came all the way from Reno to help. All the Wranglers, Scorekeepers and Judges, thank you for all your help. Michelle Blunkall and Ron Judson thank you for keeping the Red Bluff Roundup Regional a great cookoff.

ICS RULES
The ICS rule of members not being able to cook in a non-sanctioned chili cookoff without consent has been WAIVED for the Hemet cookoff on April 26th. The dealership asked for a two day event, back to back, but because of our Conejo Valley cookoff on April 26th, it was denied. Conejo has been going on for years and scheduling another competitive cookoff on the same day could only hurt their numbers. So to stick to the plan of a two day event Hemet decided on an OPEN competition for the second day and those wishing to participate may do so.

Chili Ole and Southern Colorado Regionals (Back to Backs)
.
.
We are going to have Back to Back Regional Cookoffs, May 16th and May 17th, in Pueblo , Colorado during the Wild Wild West Fest, put together by the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce and the Professional Bull Riders, home based in Pueblo . This will be a fun filled event beginning Wednesday, May 13th, and ending Sunday, May 17th. More than 10,000 people per day are expected to be present. There will be downtown festivals, carnival rides, Fan Zone and Marketplace Events, a parade on Saturday with John Elway as the parade marshall, bull riding events at the Events Center at the Colorado State Fair, live entertainment, a PBR after event party on Saturday, and best of all TWO REGIONAL qualifying cookoffs, Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday's cookoff will be the Wild Wild West Fest Regional (Chili Ole Regional), subbing for one of the Cripple Creek cookoffs. Sunday will be the PBR Southern Colorado Regional, home of the first World's Green Chili Championship, started right here in Pueblo . We will not have People's Choice, because of regulations with the Pueblo Health Department.
We will be located between B and C Street on Union Avenue . Set up time will be from 7:00 am to 8:00 am both days. You will be able to unload on Union , and then park your vehicle just around the corner. Chief Judge will be Bob Plager and Chief Scorekeeper will be Kathy Plager. The entry fees for Red Chili are $35.00 for ICS members, $85.00 for Non ICS Members, $30.00 for Green Chili, and $15.00 for Salsa. Prize money each day will be $300.00 1st, $200.00 2nd, and $100.00 3rd for both Red and Green Chili, and $100.00 1st for Salsa, with First Place Winners advancing to 2009 World's.
Turn in times will be 12:00 pm for Salsa, 1:00 pm for Green Chili, and 2:30 pm for Red Chili (both days). Cooks meeting will be at 9:00 am. Light your fires for Green Chili at 10:00 am and 11:30 am for Red Chili.
The location will be easy to find. From I-25 either North or South, take the 1st Street exit and head west. At the second stop light, turn left on South Main Street until you get to B Street, turn right and the first street you come to will be Union Avenue. Unload there and park just around the corner. I am trying to find a host hotel for special rates for Chili Cooks. I'll let you know soon if I find one. Look forward to seeing all of you in May!

Carl "Smitty" Smith
Just an update on Smitty. As you know, he was transported to the hospital after the cookoff because of his heart. He was having trouble breathing and after taking a couple of nitro pills didn't feel any better. The EMT's transported and he had an angioplasty this morning and all is clear. He will be released in the morning and sent home to do a check up with the doctor. Thank God he is ok. Also, condolences to Doni on loosing her father over the past week. Ok, everyone, it can stop now!!!!
