ALL OHIO Regional Results

Greetings all,

Was a beautiful day here is Cincinnati with the temperatures in the low 80's and sunny skies, and what a great return cook off for the Queen City. We had 28 cooks present with 24 cooking red, 13 Verde, and 14 salsas. In addition to all of the pre registered cooks, Gumby and Gail Donovan joined us to cook, and what a wonderful pleasure it was for me as Chair to have them here to help support my efforts to bring back this fantastic chili cook off this year. I would really like to thanks all of the cooks for taking the time to be here to help me pull off my first attempt at coordinating a cook off, and what a great was to do so thanks to all those who were here. We also witnessed two additional hat tricks with Faye Mulligan taking both the Verde and salsa, and Don Van Lehn taking the red. Congrats to them and to all for their great recipes.

Town of Superior Regional

.

With temperatures in the 80's the day before, this chili day turned out to be a little chilly (temps in the high 50's and low 60's), and a little rainy, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the Chili and Salsa cooks, and neither did it chase away too much of the crowd, estimated at over 3000 people. This was the 9th Annual Town of Superior Chili Fest, which is a big "town event" for Superior. Close to $3000 was raised for the Boulder County Incident Management Team, which is an interagency resource called upon to manage complex, multi-day emergencies such as wildfires, tornadoes, floods, blizzards and significant hazardous material accidents.

.

This cookoff brought many new members into the ICS family, and couldn't have been put on without the support of it's many sponsors, and the countless volunteers that help out each year. A big thank you, goes out to Kristi and Dan Audette, Martin Toth, Jennifer Dunn, Milisa Miller, Juanita Dominguez, along with other Town of Superior staff, and Heather Cracraft with the Chamber of Commerce, who coordinated and kept this event running smoothly. Kathy Plager, my Chief Scorekeeper, along with her helpers, Kay and Mike Rook, Al Henry and Kelly Ritter, kept everything running smoothly in the judging tent.

WACHUSETT MOUNTAIN REGIONAL RESULTS

.

In typical fashion, Lee Wood chaired an excellent event. The weather was beautiful and the venue was beautiful.

.

Because of a scheduling glitch, Red chili was the only ICS event judged.

.

However, aside from best booth, showmanship, people's choice and best rookie cook, Lee also runs a youth division cook-off to try to interest young cooks to get the chili-cooking bug.

Most of the trophies were made by Lee's daughter, Samantha, who, along with Lee, runs Pottery Paint n' Things. They were chili peppers, hand made by Sam, fired by Lee and painted by his wife, Kim. They were awesome trophies......chili peppers for the ICS division and really neat toilet seats for People's Choice!

Anyway, here's the breakdown...

.

Best Booth: Don Ouellette

.

Showmanship: Jack Cowell

Rookie Cook: Heather Magner

People's Choice: Rich LaFrance - who has his hat trick and did people's choice all day long, just to help out Lee

.

Youth: Kaitlyn Hennessy....she was cute....just a little bit bigger than her stove!

ICS RED:

5th: Don Ouellette

4th: Judy Omerza

3rd: Mary Alice Kropp

2nd: Dave Schulman (Dave's 4th or 5th second place in as many weeks)

1st: Mike Freedman.....for his hat-trick. Good job, Mike.

.

Congrats to all.

.

Thanks to Audrey and Steve Falkowski for the unblemished score-keeping, as usual.
