Silver Anniversary Route 66 Regional
Attn: CHILIHEADS
June 14, 2008 will be a special day in Flagstaff, Arizona. On that date, the Flagstaff Chili Society will be hosting the Silver Anniversary 25th Annual Route 66 Regional Chili Cookoff. This year, we will have special prize money for Traditional Red Chili, Chili Verde and Salsa. Jinny Kost from Pine, AZ is working on a special quilt with old Route 66 shirts incorporated into it as our #1 raffle prize. Of course, we'll have plenty of other raffle prizes to be awarded that day, as always. Sarah is also working on a project just for the cooks. For each of the 3 events entered, a cook will receive a ticket for that prize. If you are entered in all 3, you'll have 3 tickets. Drawing for that prize will also be on June 14.
Our goal for this special year is to have a total of 66 entries or more. I figure it will take 30 reds, 18 verdes and 18 salsas. We'll also have special Silver Anniversary T-shirts for all the Red and Verde cooks. We hope you'll be able to join us to make this happen.
Just a reminder, many of you who have cooked regularly will need to renew your health permit this year. They cost $18 and are good for 3 years. Utah State now requires one from somewhere too.
On the following day, the 37th Arizona State Championship in Payson will again be held at the Mazatzal Casino. They now have the hotel on site open, so look for a cooks deal there for Saturday night. They offer great prize money down there and put on a class event. I'll have flyers starting in January in Laughlin.

We really hope to see you in the cool pines at the Northern Arizona Back to Backs next June!

Golf Tourney at the ICS Worlds
I was asked at this years ICS WCCC why the golf tourney is on Thursday instead of on Friday like it was years ago. If you all remember, Last Chance was held in it's early years late on Friday, with a 1 pm prep time and a 5 pm turn in time. This allowed us to have a very early tee time and get the golfers who were cooking out first so they could get back to the site, set up and get rolling. When the ICS moved the Last Chance up to what many would call a standard time, 11 am prep and 3 pm turn in, we had to move the golf so it did not interfere. Barring a change in time for Last Chance by the ICS, next years tourney will again be on Thursday, at a nice course somewhere near wherever the ICS WCCC is next year. Hope you'll make the effort to join us, we all have a great time each year.
