THURSDAY - Sept. 25, 2008

The Blue Grass Regional

We're in big trouble running out of time and can't get any cooks to make any commitments. Right now Diane only has around 7 Red 4 Verde just a couple of Salsa. I've emailed cooks but don't know if it will help. This is a great cookoff can't believe she can't get anymore cooks than she has.

CALLING ALL COOK'S

We desperately need your help. The Blue Grass Regional in Lexington, KY on Sunday 9/28/2008 is in need of chili cooks in Red, Verde and Salsa. This is a premiere Cookoff ran by Diane & Larry Lentz and is offering great prize money at a great venue with cover and table & chairs provided. This is a Cook's Cookoff, please if you can make it let us know we will accommodate you or if you know of a cook who might be interested let them know. This cookoff is on the verge of loosing its Regional status so we need your help. The Lentz's have always been huge supporters for everyone else's Cookoff so it's time now to help support theirs. See you in Lexington on Sunday September 28 for one last chance before the World.

Sad News

It is with great sadness that I let you know of the passing of Sy (Seth) Brockway in Greenwich CT.

He found his love of chili cookoffs while he was an executive for the Pepsi Company and became a member of the Advisory Board of the ICS.

You could always find him and his dear friend Arlene Kieta attending, judging and helping out at the many cookoffs in the Northeast.

He led a very interesting life; at one time he talked of his neighbor who was his babysitter, Kathryn Hepburn. He went on to Yale where he met and played baseball with President George Bush 41. In 2002, Sy contacted President Bush and he and Mrs. Bush came to the Maine State cookoff to sample the chilis and meet up with Sy.
Sy also was a veteran of WWII, where he served as Staff Sergeant in Company D 101 Infantry Regiment.

Later years took its toll on Sy and he was cared for at the Nathaniel Witherall Home in Greenwich for the last 2 1/2 years. He died on Thursday, September 11 of Heart Failure.

He is survived by a niece, a nephew, and 2 grand nieces.

.

A memorial service will be held at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street in Greenwich, CT on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Internment will be private.
