Great Forsyth, IL. Regional

1/17/09

ICS Chili Cookoff

The 4th annual Great Forsyth Regional Cookoff Chairman, "Hap" Gilbert (Mayor of Forsyth), has went all out this year in plans for this ICS Regional Cookoff with some new and fun things.

First of all he has increased the first place Red Chili Award to $1,200 as well as very nice other prizes.

"Hap" has worked with Jim Dietz (General Manager) of the Homewood Suites for great rates at his brand new hotel next to where the cookoff will be held.

Jim has offered the chili cooks and judges a rate of $89 per night, plus tax for an all inclusive suite which is a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen (including dishwasher, big refrigerator, stove, and all the amenities).

Also, Jim is offering the lobby of this beautiful hotel for a gathering and celebrating of the winners on Saturday evening after the cookoff.

Jay Nicol, owner of Ray's Chilli, will be offering up some of his delicious pulled pork and Doug Cekander, Manager of "Buffalo Wild Wings" will be bringing in several of his delicacies. While Jim Dietz will be filling in the rest of the menu for a great evening.

Every one of the cooks and judges are invited to this gathering even if you decide not to stay at the hotel.

However we do recommend that you book a room at the Homewood Suites. Several "out of towners" have already booked their rooms their and plan to stay Friday and Saturday night and then we all get up and drive to Springfield (35 min.) for the Winterfreeze Regional on Sunday Jan 18.

That's 2 days of ICS chili cooking and both are Regionals. There will be 9 contestants to qualify for the

2009 ICS World's Championship on this weekend in Central Illinois.

The hotel is on the North end of the Beautiful Hickory Point Mall (Bergner's end) where we will be cooking and the reservation number to call is (217) 877 0887. Be sure to ask for the "Chili rate."

For more info got to http://www.chilicookoff.com/ or you can call the Village of Forsyth at (217) 877 9445.

As a reminder both cookoffs are indoors and we will be providing tables and chairs, however, decorating of your space is highly recommended.

HAPPY NEW YEAR and HAPPY COOKING

Hope to see you there,

Chief Judge, Bob Hall

CARL BAKER Health Update

Carl Baker has been waiting for the longest time for a liver transplant. He spent several weeks in San Francisco waiting. The Doctors removed his gallbladder and found that he was full of cancer. They have sent him back to Las Vegas, where they have put him in Hospice Care. He will be sent home to Pahrump NV. Friday the 2nd and will be seen 3 times a week by a hospice nurse. This is terminal according to the Doctors. Dona and Pops Baker have given the OK to put this news out. Carl and Pops Baker aka (The Baker Boys) have been cooking ISC Chili for many years. Cooking ICS Chili has been a very important part of their lives. They have cooked in the World's Cookoffs several times and won many Cookoffs. Dona and Dick have given me an address and phone numbers if anyone would like to call or send cards. Dona said please call. Please keep the Baker Family in your prayers.

Thanks

Mike Austin
