PAT CLEARY

I am sad to note the passing of a good friend and fellow Chili Head. Pat Cleary. Pat passed away on Monday January 5TH due to a heart attack and other complications.
He was taken ill while on a New Years trip to Catalina island with his wife and friends and was transported back to the main land hospital where he treated.Pat had also served in the Army and was a retired member of the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department.
If I am not mistaken he and his team were second in the world at some point of the past.
Services will be held this Sunday at Westminster Memorial Park at 2:30 P.M. The address is 14801 Beach Blvd. Westminster,Ca.There will be a wake at the family home following the services

I talked to Dick Baker earlier today and he asked me to post this message for our chili friends and family.

Carl is at home in Pahrump and will be there until he passes.

Pops said his kidneys are shutting down and it won't be long, maybe two to three days. He would like chili friends and family to call or send cards soon.

Please keep the whole family in your Prayers and Thoughts. Prayers do work to comfort.

KELLY WESSING

Just wanted to let the the chilli kingdom know that Kelly Wessing of Farmersville ILL was involved in a one car accident the Saturday before Christmas. Her back was broke in three places and also her leg. She will be in the hospital at least 2- 3 more weeks. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Send her a card and make her day a little better. Laughlin Cook Offs

Because of the Health Dept. reading some small article in a local newspaper about chili tasting, Patty had to get washing stations. Now that we are legal anybody wanting to cook peoples choice chili for the charity (Cancer Society) may do so.We will have a prize for the most tickets collected. So sorry this is such short notice but we just found out today.

Chili in the Cornfield District Cookoff
Sunday, January 25, 2009

The 3rd Annual Chili in the Cornfield Cookoff is rapidly approaching and we're gearing up for a fantastic time. The cookoff is being held indoors at The Farmer's Kitchen restaurant at 319 Walnut Street in Atlantic, Iowa. The ICS website is incorrect about the FREE Breakfast Buffet. The buffet is on Sunday morning from 7 AM to 9:30 AM. Lunch will also be available.

The Super 8 Motel has a weekend room rate of $90 plus tax. The number is 712-243-4723.

Tables & chairs will be provided and cooks can use the restaurant's dish machine for clean up. Coffee and soda are free for all chili teams and alcoholic beverages are available across the street at Big Dawg's Bar.

As we are now a month and a half from the First ever Rhode Island State Chili Cookoff, we wanted to reach out to all of the cooks to remind them about this wonderful event.

This will be a BIG one!The uniquness of having a beautiful indoor venue for the Rhode Island State Chili Cookoff coupled with the availability of airports,hotels,shopping and perhaps even a little gambling (across from the host hotel) make this a "must do" cookoff.
The host hotel will be The Best Western in Newport,RI. The address is: 151
Admiral Kalbfus Road, Newport, Rhode Island, 02840-1310 and the telephone number is:401-849-9880.The rate will be $68 a night plus tax. You must ask
for the "Chili Cooks" rate". The Best Western Hotel is approx.19 minutes/9.52 miles from the cookoff site. For those cooks that are flying,The Best Western Hotel is 39 minutes and 27.75 miles from T.F. Green airport.
We will also have a cooks welcome party in the Best Western Hotel lounge on 2-27 from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. This will give cooks an opportunity to get together to say hello to our friends from March of Dimes RI, all of the other cooks that will be there.
