DESERT RAT REGIONAL

.

What a great weekend. Friday night we had 8 contestants for the Beef Stew Challenge with Mark Haught (another Vegas cook moved to Pahrump) taking 1st Place.

.

Saturday morning began with free breakfast for the cooks and volunteers as usual. Phil Morosky always puts together a great event for everyone involved. Pat Morosky who is usually the overworked liaison and money handler was missing due to hand surgery a few days before and was truly missed. Capt Jim Maehl did his usual excellent job as Chief Judge (& site coordinator). Scorekeepers were Donnie Gordon, MaryEllen Weber, Nicole Caimi and Louise Dinneweth; Wranglers Bob Dinneweth and Wim. Pete Caimi did a great job as Emcee and covering for Mike Austin who was attending Mikie's (grandson) wedding. And the winners:

.

Salsa (9 Contestants)

3rd Place - Pam O'Sullivan

2nd Place - Patricia Sanchez

1st Place - John Jepson

.

Chili Verde (12 Contestants)

3rd Place - Patricia Sanchez

.

After the cookoff the Legion served a dinner of cornish game hen, rice pilaf, green beans, salad and cake... It was very good and more food than most of us could eat. Thank you to all the cooks, the Legion, Phil and all the volunteers. Great Job!
