Born at Community Regional Cook-off

Last Saturday, May 8, at San Bernardino Community Hospital, the hospital hosted its second regional chili cook-off. Last year it was titled "Neighbors helping Neighbors" and thousands of people showed up. This year, same venue, different name, dozens showed up. It was a bit disappointing to the chili cooks that prepared their pots of people's choice. However, the hospital was pleased with the turn out and is anticipating having another next year.

This year we also were short of cooks, with only three green entries. At the cooks meeting it was determined that this would be a practice green cook-off, with the prize money awarded, but not a WCCC qualifier.

That being said, there were 13 excellent red cooks and 7 salsa cooks all competing to travel to Manchester, N.H. for the big show.

I want to thank all of the cooks that came out and the judges that came and helped me out, and especially the Head Scorekeeper, my wife, Kathy and Sheila Gordon and Karen Ray for assisting with the scorekeeping.
