39^th Arizona State Chili Cookoff

What a beautiful day with lots of sunshine for the 39th Annual Arizona State Chili Championship in Payson, Arizona. The Mazatzal Hotel and Casino did a fantastic job on the location of the cookoff, along with the indoor judging room, which used to be the old Poker Room. The wind picked up a little before red chili turn in, but it did not interfere with the spirits of the great cooks there, and the public who came out to taste all of the chili's and salsas. Linda Mathiesen, the cookoff and event Chairperson was great to work with. She and her crew made things run smoothly, and she provided many great judges for each category.

Special thank you's go out, first of all, to Linda Mathiesen, for being a pleasure to work with on this event, and her enduring smile and attitude the whole day. To our great judging room crew of Bob & Louise Dinneweth from Kingman, Pete & Nicole Caimi from Las Vegas, Bill & Marilou Corrao from Lake Havasu City , and my wife, Kathy Plager, all who did an excellent job of scorekeeping, wrangling, and keeping things running smoothly. Everyone works great together!!

Cooks from 7 states (AZ, CA, CO, FL, NC, NV, TX) came to make this a wonderful cookoff. The trophies and prize money were very generous, and everyone looks forward to the cookoff again next year.
