New Hampshire State Results

After a rainy week in the NY area, we were very happy to arrive at the Bronco Belly Bustin Chili Cookoff New Hampshire State championships in Hudson NH and see only a light cloud cover. Temps were mile and the weather forecast was for sun. About 10 am the sun came out and never left. It was a great day. Lots of spectators tasting chili, buying raffle tickets for huge gift bags filled with goodies, and games for the kids,

Of course the best part is listening to the band of the Alvirne High School music department. Gerry Bastein is the Jazz Band Director and there isn't a cook or spectator that didn't stop and listen to this award winning band perform. They have traveled around the world for performances. If for no other reason than to come and listen to this music, you should be at this cookoff next year.

.

The Friends of Music at Alvirne High School were the hard workers who pu this all together, especially Mike Farrell. We want to thank them all for their dedication.

.

We even had a youth ready to cook, but they were not set up for a Youth Division this year, so Kaiti Hennessy decided to go ahead and cook her pot of chili. The cooks then came to the judging tent to critique her bowl. She was very happy to have gotten such great comments and promised to build a better bowl in the next Youth Division.

Lawrence MA District Cookoff

After a beautiful day on Saturday at the New Hampshire State Cookoff, the weather held for Sunday at the Lawrence MA District Chili Cookoff. We had a wonderful new site and there was a fabulous car show going on at the same time. The Lawrence Rotary had staff members running all around getting things organized. In addition to the ICS chili, they had a people's choice category for the Heroes of Lawrence. These teams included fire departments, hospitals, and EMT's. The huge crowd loved all the chili and seeing all the cars. Most of the cooks were at the cookoff the day before and were a bit tired, as we all were, but we still had a great showing. Many thanks to the Rotary for their hard work and to Mike and Mary Alice Kropp for helping us (and apprenticing) in the judging tent.

Silver State Regional,

Saturday June 6th

.

It was a beautiful day at Lake Las Vegas... Mid 80s... Nice Breeze... Beautiful venue... Lots of good friends... Great Sponsor... 5 Executive Chefs (Chef Billy Joe decided to Judge)... 8 People's Choice + our cooks... Lots of fun. Chief Judge Jim Maehl and Dirty Ole Phil were there at 6:30 am to greet the cooks and help them find their way through the quaint Mediterranean Village. Fred Wieland, Chairman and I showed up around 7am and we all went to work. Capt Jim appointed Bob Dinneweth Asst Chief Judge so he wouldn't feel bad about working him silly. Scorekeepers were Donnie Gordon, Leah Wieland, Louise Dinneweth and Marilou Corrao; Wranglers Willma Maehel, Bill Corrao & Sharue Johnson kept things running smoothly in the judging area. Mike Austin did a great job as Emcee. Special thanks to Phil Morosky who spent a very long day day running cooks back & forth, running errands for everyone and was still there to help Jim load the golf cart on the trailer after helping clean the judging area and after everyone else was long gone. Thanks Phil. Jim, Fred & I greatly appreciate all the work.

Fire & Spice New Hampshire Regional Chili Cookoff

.

The first annual Fire & Spice New Hampshire Regional Chili Cookoff will be held Sept. 5, 2009 in at the Wakefield Parks and Recreation Fields in the picturesque town of Wakefield, NH located in the Lake Winnipesaukee region. This is Labor Day weekend and provides a great opportunity to pick up a qualification for the 2009 WCCC in Salsa and Red Chili as well as vacation in New Hampshire's beautiful lakes region.

.

This is a regional cookoff in its first year so it would be great to get enough cooks there to keep it a regional in the upcoming years. If you are looking for a last minute qualifier, this is the place to be.

.

I am told that the cookoff just picked up a major sponsor who wants to make this an annual event.

.

If you are an already qualified cook, we'd love to have you come up and judge.

.

Watch http://fireandspice.synthasite.com/ for more details.
