Missouri State - Reminder Sept 30

MISSOURI STATE REMINDER-September 30th

Chili-Cook-Off

& Salsa Competition

Celebrates 31 Years of Making Lives Better

It’s a celebration of all that is spicy – chilis and salsas of every variety and live music with the hottest local bands. The National Kidney Foundation of Eastern Missouri and Metro East is planning its 31st Annual Chili Cook-Off & Salsa Competition!

.

This year’s event is Saturday, September 30h, 11 am to 7 pm at Westport Plaza. The musical line-up includes Swing Cat Swing, Well Hungarians, and PLASTIC.

.

Seventy-five chefs from around the region will compete for the Missouri Chili Championship title. Guests will enjoy chili and salsa samples for just 50 cents each, while enjoying music, dancing, and food and craft vendors. And of course, there’s the Showmanship Competition – where each cooking team competes for votes through costumes, skits, elaborate booth décor and customer service.

.

For patrons who prefer something other than chili or salsa, the event offers burgers, hot dogs, freshly roasted nuts, fruit smoothies, kettle corn, grilled chicken and portabella mushroom sandwiches, ice cream, icy cold beverages and even fried Oreos!

.

Children will enjoy the Kids Corner, complete with inflatable attractions, costumed characters, face painting, games and crafts.

.

Proceeds from the annual event help to fund kidney disease prevention efforts and patient services. 20 million Americans have kidney disease. Another 20 million are at risk.

.

Chilli-Man and Budweiser are the Title Sponsors of the event. They are joined by other corporate sponsors, including FM101.1 The River, FM106.5 The Arch, 92.3 WIL, Westport Plaza, Schupp Company and Schnucks Markets.

.

Admission to the Chili Cook-Off is just $7.00, and includes 4 chili samples. Additional samples are just 50 cents. Children under 12 are admitted free. For further information, call the National Kidney Foundation of Eastern Missouri & Metro East, at (314) 961-2828, or log on at http://www.nkfstl.com/.

Sponsored by the Brown Jug Liquor Warehouse and The Moose's Tooth, Wayne Ronsman was a very accomplished chairman of the quality and successful event. Hope Resources Cottage was the charity. Bruce Eliasen CPA was head scorekeeper. Traveling cooks should consider this one next year. It should be huge and may happen earlier in the year. I must say these chilies were World Class, and the hospitality magnificent!

Thistledown Regional
Thistledown Regional
North Randall, OH
Aug. 26
Thistledown Race track was again the setting for the ICS sanctioned Thistledown Regional chili cookoff.
Brent Reitz (Marketing Director) and his able assistant Heather as well as all of the Thistledown staff do an excellent job of organizing the chili cookoff. Many of the staff really get into the judging as well.
These folks make it very accommodating for the chili cooks. The cooks pull right up to their spot on the paddock area were Brent already has table and chairs set up for them and then pull back over to special parking for the cooks.
While cooking chili under cover of the paddock, watching the Thorough breeds run and the betting window right behind you, this could not be a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
All this is done mostly to raise funds for the Thistledown Thorough Bred Charities.
Thanks to Ken Kostal (Chairman) and to Brent for all they do for the chili cooks.
It was a very good day for the cooks and a particularly good day for one of the contestants who was treated very $$$ nicely by the ponies as well as two contestants that were treated very nicely by the judges. You may say it was a D & D day!
Be sure to watch for the dates for next years Thistledown Chili Cookoff. You would not want to miss this one.

Mills Creek District
Mills Creek
Golf Course
Sandusky, OH.
Aug. 27
This first time ICS sanctioned District cookoff was held at the Mills Creek Golf Course in Sandusky, OH.
Michelle Spear (Event Director) as well as Ken Kostal (Cookoff Chairman) worked together to put this District Cookoff on, and an outstanding job they did.
This cookoff was to raise funds for "Big Brother's/Big Sister's" of Sandusky, OH.
With rain in the morning and cloudy with some drizzles in the afternoon it did keep some of the people as well as the golfers away. However, it did not dampen the spirit of the chili cooks.
As the cooks arrived, Michelle had a large tent with tables and chairs already set up for the contestants as well as another tent for the judging.
Cooks could pull right up along side of the tent to unload and park right there.
With this new first time District, it shows promises of growing as well as signing up 2 new ICS members
Thanks to Michele, Judy, and Ken Kostal this is a keeper that you would not want to miss next year.

With Lenny's second place finish among all these "high powered" cooks, he and Karen were very, very excited.
