Bloomington Indiana District Sept 29 Cancelled

.

Due to the iffy nature of the verde & salsa competitions several cooks have canceled out of the red event, dropping the numbers below the required 7. Rebecca and the staff at Cedar Ridge felt it was best to cancel the event for this year. They would like to thank all those that had inquired and thought about the cookoff.

COLMAN TYPE COOK STOVES

.

I would like to remind everybody cooking in the WCCC

that you have to use a Coleman Type Cook Stove that uses propane.

Last year we had some cooks that showed up with stoves that used white gas. This made the events people very nervous as they were afraid the fire marshal would shut them down. I was able to provide those cooks with a propane type stove.

.

I well have a few extra stoves with me this year as well for anybody discovering that there stove does not work. They're not the greatest looking in the world, but they will do the job.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Swallows Inn

The Swallows Inn cookoff was definitely canceled last Friday by the city of San Juan Capistrano. The city officials could not agree with the cookoff organizers on the format for the cookoff, street closures, etc. I've spoken to the owners of the Swallows Inn and they are hoping to move the cookoff to a new location next spring.

CHILI OLE' REGIONAL

&

SOUTHERN COLORADO REGIONAL

Our back to back Regional's in beautiful Pueblo Colorado were an outstanding success. The weather for both days was gorgeous, even though we had periods of wind on Sunday. We had good crowds both days, fewer than we thought we might have because the Chili and Frijoles Festival crowds didn't filter over to our cookoffs the way we thought they might, but the cookoffs were still very successful. Bob and Kathy Plager, Jim and Roberta Burns, Eldon and Helen Likkel, Dave Balsick, and all of our other volunteers did a great job being Chief Judge ,Scorekeepers, Emcee, and cookoff assistants to make the two events run as smooth as silk. Each of the winners from both days received Pueblo plaques that they can display at Omaha, prize money that they can spend, and each winner also received a half bushel of great roasted Pueblo chilis that they can use at the ICS World's Championship in October.

As a great positive to our two cookoffs, two ICS cooks completed their hat tricks during the weekend. Steve Tomasek IV won ICS Red one day and Chili Verde the next day to complete his hat trick, Pricilla Licon won ICS Red on Sunday to complete hers.

Congratulations to all for their accomplishments.

BEATTY DAYS REGIONAL

.

If you are planning to cook at the Beatty Days Regional in Beatty, NV on October 27, 2007 you should make your reservations now. They have lined up a couple other events for that weekend and the rooms are going fast. Call the Stagecoach Hotel & Casino at 775-553-2419 to make reservations for the Stagecoach, if they are full they will place you in one of the other motels in town. The Exchange Club number is 775-553-2333, or Motel 6 at 775-553-9090. These are the three best motels in Beatty. The Phoenix and the El Portal are not too nice so you should avoid these two motels.

You can always cancel if you qualify before then, but if you don't qualify you will at least have a room.

Bloomington Indiana District

Sept 29th. –

One of the last chances in the mid west to qualify for the 2007 WCCC. Still looking for a qualification to the Last Chance? How about that coveted slot in the championships for verde & salsa? The red chili is a go, BUT this new district still needs entries for verde and salsa. Please let Rebecca at Cedar Ridge Campgrounds know if you are planning on attending. They have a great day and a great event planned, they just need our participation to make it all work. Rebecca can be reached at 1-800-641-9308 or you can register thru the ICS web site. Julie & I will be there and assisting with the event as much as we can within the rules, as I am still trying for a verde slot, while Julie still needs salsa to complete our hat tricks. So not only does Rebecca and the staff at Cedar Ridge need your help, so do the cooks that have already entered.

.

Thanks

Jeff & Julie Netser

Request from ICS VICKIE

This was an email sent to Vickie at the ICS Office, can the Chiliheads help ?

From: John Rost [mailto:akeyboardanda45@yahoo.com]
Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 11:00 PM
To: ics@chilicookoff.com
Subject: Chili recipe

At one time I had the chili recipe used by the Yuma Territorial Prison for feeding prisoners. It was a very basic chili. I have lost the recipe, been looking for it for quite awhile but can not find it.

You would not happen to have this late 1800's chili recipe would you?

Thanks
