Laurel Race Track District CCO

Hey Folks

Good news the powers that be in charge of the new district cook off in Laurel Maryland has decided to green light the other 2 categories. Fred Bell will be handling the Judging and they are working on a prize structure for the Verde and Salsa. Again the people running it want this to be an annual event so if you're in the area and have a free date come on down and support them. The closest airport is BWI and it's a pretty straight shot to the cook off site.

Thanks for your time

Rhode Island State Chili Cookoff

February 28th

Knights of Columbus,

Middletown, RI

Brief update on details:

This event will not be open to the public. There were many hurdles, at the last minute, to overcome with regulations in RI and the best remedy was to have a private event. Therefore, there will be no People's Choice. This will give the cooks the opportunity to focus on their pots.

Being an indoor event, space is limited. We are in hall that will be set up with tables and chairs. Please plan on 2 cooks to a banquet table. We may be able to stretch it to one cook per table and will make every effort to do so.

We will be able to enter the building at 12 noon. We cannot come into the building prior to this time, so please do not come earlier. The building is 2 floors. As you enter the parking lot you will see a door to the downstairs area. Enter through this door. The upstairs will be reserved for the judging area.

As this is a later start and ending time, there will be pulled-pork sandwiches and cole slaw which we will have for you as we wait for the announcements. The Knights will also have a cash bar available for drinks. A kitchen to clean your gear in is on-site.

Doors open ar 12 noon; cooks meeting 12:30; judges meeting 2pm; salsa turnin 3pm; verde turnin 4pm; red turnin 5pm

Happy travels to everyone, if there are additional questions please feel free to email madmike@chilict.com

Can't wait to see you,

Kathy & Michael Freedman

THURSDAY Feb. 19, 2009

Copperstate & Valley of the Sun Regionals

.

Greetings from Ahwatukee!!!

.

I hope everyone is doing well and in the mood to cook some chili!! We are hosting the Back to Back Copperstate Regional and Valley of the Sun Regional cook offs again this year on March 14 and 15th in our lovely Ahwatukee Park. We will again have security on site Saturday night so cooks can leave their tents and belongings instead of packing it all up and setting up again. What a deal!!! Entry fees are $35 for Red, $25 for Green, and $15 for Salsa. If you need tables, chairs or canopies they are available for rent. A table plus 2 chairs is $10 and a canopy is $15 for a two-day rental

.

This year we are adding more attractions for Saturday and Sunday such as amusement rides for the kids, pizza, mexican food, brats, two great bands and BEER and WINE during the event. The Farmer's Market will join the event on Sunday.

.

As far as lodging, I just spoke with a representative from Extended Stay American (1.22 miles from our location) and she gave us a great, great, deal especially during this peak season. This is a 1 bedroom suite with a kitchen for only $56.99 per night. This is a terrific deal. It is a nice, clean hotel and very close to our facility. To get this deal you need to book before February 14 and tell the booking agent that you are with the International Chili Society. She has blocked off 20 rooms as of today. Their address is 14245 S. 50th St., Phoenix, AZ 85044 and phone number is 480-785-0464. If you have any problems with the reservation, ask to speak with Milijana. She is the one I spoke with about this group rate.

.

I look forward to seeing everyone back this year!! You guys are a FUN GROUP.

.

Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions. Please pass this information on to anyone you might think would be interested in our cook offs.

.

Have a great day!!!!

BEULAH PARK PHOTO-FINISH REGIONAL COOKOFF

.

Time has come again for the Beulah Park Regional Cookoff in Grove City, OH just outside of Columbus. OH. It will be held on Saturday April 18, 2009. Cookoff Chairperson Jessica Hamlin, somehow managed in this crazy economy, found a way to increase the prize money. How she managed to do it I'll never know but anyway this is one Cookoff you'll not want to miss. She has also secured a deal for room discounts at the Red Roof Inn at the I-71 & Stringtown Rd. Exit 100 (Grove City).

.

As in previous years there is going to be a fabulous Cooks Party at Rooster's on Friday night April 17, with Chicken wings and beer for everyone to enjoy. This is also at the same Exit as the Red Roof Inn. Cookoff information is due to be mailed out any day now.

.

As in previous Cookoffs this Cookoff is indoors under cover with a beautiful view of Beulah Park Race Track. So as you're cooking your favorite pot of chili you can also be betting on your favorite pony because you're just steps away from placing your bets.

.

Beulah Park has a very limited supply of tables and chairs. We are asking all cooks who are driving to the Cookoff to please bring their own tables and chairs. If you are flying into Columbus for the Cookoff we will see that a table and two chairs are provided. Fire extinguishers are required so bring one if you have one.

As in the past couple of years I will be the Chief Judge and Kit will be the Chief Scorekeeper.

.

Proceeds will benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio.

Laurel Chili Cook Off

Hey Folks

.

I was just talking to the lady who is starting the new ICS Laurel Chili Cook Off on March 28. She is super pumped on the event and wants it to be huge and an annual event. I told her I would send out a prelim e mail to see if any of you would be interested in supporting her cook off. At this point she is signed on for red only. But after our talk she is open to the other 2 categories. All she wants is your feed back on the validity of such a venture. Her charities are The FOP widows and orphans fund, and a group called Cantor. Cantor from what I understand finds homes for race horses that can't race anymore. Please send me your thoughts so I can relay them to her. The site is going to be at the Laurel Race Track. She is going to try and get kitchen space for cooks who would liketo clean there dishes before packing up.

Thanks for your time and I look forward your responses. I hope all is well with all of you.

Cya on the trail.
