River Resorts Regional
Hello, Chili Folks,
.
We excited about the 21st Annual Lost Lake Resort Chili Cookoff aka River Resorts Regional. It's just a week away on Saturday, November 17th. To those of you who have sent entries, we thank you. Some of you have also told us you'd be there, and we're counting on you as well. If you aren't sure yet, it's OK. We won't turn you away if you just show up.
.
A couple of reminders about the cookoff. First, People's Choice Chili is optional, but please, please bring it if you can. We sell the tasting kits to benefit English Springer Rescue America, which, as you know, is a charity close to our hearts. The charity receives half of the money from the sale of tasting kits; the winner by ballot receives the other half. In the past this amount has ranged from $250.00 to over $400.00, and has been won by a different person each year. Bringing People's Choice Chili gives you a chance to interact with the public, and you might win a pretty good prize!
.
Also remember that we will serve breakfast to all cooks and judges promptly at 8:00 am on Saturday. This will be followed by a cooks' meeting for all contestants. Several years ago, Ray Little began a tradition at this cookoff of serving free Bloody Marys and Mimosas prior to the breakfast. Although Ray is no longer with us, Armando Sanchez is continuing the tradition, and doing a great job. Ray would be very proud.
.
After that, it's just a chili cookoff with all three contests, on grass, at the Colorado River with good prize money and lots of trophies. Little Miss Chili Pepper and Little Mr. Hot Sauce are real crowd-pleasers. And with Steve Porter as emcee, anything can (and sometimes does) happen in the Adult Miss Chili Pepper contest.
.
Hope to see you at the River on Saturday.
