BEATTY DAYS REGIONAL

by: Bobbie Gaul

The first Regional held in Beatty, Nevada has come and gone. The weather was ideal, a little warm but not HOT! This year they mixed the vendors in with the cooks and there were a lot more spectators than ever. I think the word is getting around that Beatty Days is a fun time, plus there were a few other things going on in Beatty that brought in more people. The Summer's had their annual after chili cookoff potluck. As you all know, when chili cooks get together for a potluck, the food is in abundance and no one goes home hungry. The Texas Holdem tournament was won by Patti and her daughter Crystal. I would like to thank the people who came out to help with this cookoff, and also Donnie Gordon who assisted me all weekend, I couldn't do this one without her help, also Leah & Nicole who helped on Saturday. So on to the important stuff like the winners.

Mississippi State Championship

ICS Chili Cookoff

.

The Mississippi State Cookoff was held Sat. Oct. 27 at Eastside Park in Richland, MS.

This cookoff is a family affair event in their beautiful park next to the School complex.

Linda Goff and Becky Breland (CO-Chairpersons), do a wonderful job of putting all this together.

The cookoff is tied in with the Richland fall festival in the park. There is not only championship chili, but, there is also crafts, food, and entertainment.

The event starts off on Friday evening with a live concert in the ballfield. Saturday features, not only the chili cookoff as well as other entertainment and ending with the Lawn Tractor Races. This is a blast and a lot of laughs for everyone.

After cold and rain earlier in the week we ended up with beautiful blue skies and 72 degrees for the festival.

Couldn't ask for better weather.......Linda claims that she was responsible for asking for that!

Linda and Becky's charity of choices was the Richland Historical Society and several hundred dollars were raised for that Society as a few thousand people came out to have fun and support the event eat free chili samples.

This was very refreshing to see a family like this out doing chili and having such a GREAT time.
