Sunday Aug. 6
Northern, IL. Reg.
Decatur Celebration was again the setting for the Northern IL. Regional ICS chili cookoff held in downtown Decatur, IL. and Hosted by Ray's Chilli and Ray's Brand Products.
Chairman of the Northern IL. Reg., President and owner of Ray's Brands, Jay Nicole, was also the sponsor for the Heartland Reg. held at the same location on Sat.
Over $4,000 and prizes were given away for the 2 days thanks to Ray's Brand Products.
Jay Nicole also sponsors several other ICS cookoffs in Illinois and surrounding states. The ICS and the chili people are very fortunate to have Jay as a friend to chili.
Decatur Celebration is a street festival held in a 22 block area in downtown Decatur, IL. with all kinds of foods, crafts, entertainment and of course the 2 Regional ICS chili cookoffs.
The Celebration has over 80 food booths 100 craft booths, 8 stages with many Great bands and entertainment headed up by the "Marshal Tucker Band" and an attendance of over 260,000 people.
Temperatures were in the lower 90's, but there was a slight downtown breeze blowing that kept things bearable. At least the humidity gave us a break.
Everyone had a great time as is seems that Illinois was the place for chili this past weekend with hosting 3 ICS Regional chili cookoffs.

Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cookoff
Okay all you Chiliheads out there that haven't qualified for the World yet, here is your chance. The Malibu Cookoff back to back regionals will be held over Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 2, and Sunday, September 3. Which give you Friday and Monday for traveling. There have been some problems with this cookoff, but we have been working with Dana Karney to try to straighten them out. She says that she has come up with solutions, so we will see. Dana is a great Chairperson to work with and always willing to try to change things with the powers that be.
These cookoffs have some great prize money $1000.00, $500.00, $250.00. The same for both days, so if you don't make it on Saturday you can try again on Sunday.
I would love to see everyone who is not qualified come out and support this cookoff, (this is their 25th Anniversary), so it has been around for a long time.
If you can cook,
I hope to see all our friends there.
