Beatty Days Regional
Norm and I, on behalf of Patti and Fred want to thank all 25 cooks that showed up in Beatty for the Beatty Days Regional Chili Cookoff. The morning started out with skies overcast and around noon the rain started. It wasn't a downpour but just enough to make you miserable. But all the cooks and judges stuck around to help. Even the public was not scared off by the rain, which by the way we had more spectators this year than any other year, and the cooks ran out of PC by 12:30. We also wish to thank Jim and Wilma Maehl, Phil Morosky, and Donnie Gordon for coming out to help. Donnie helps me every year and I couldn't do this without her. We even had four judges come out from Pahrump to help. Now on to the important stuff: THE WINNERS!

Ghon Eckley - Surgery Update
Hi everyone-
.
Ghon and I spent the morning at Johns Hopkins today for his preoperative tests. Things went well at the appointment.
.
Ghon checks in to Hopkins on Monday morning, November 10 at 5:30 am. The estimated start time for the surgery is 6:30, and should be about 5 hours long. At this time, Ghon is looking at having his mitral valve replaced, his aortic valve and aortic root replaced, and the tricuspid valve repaired - and possibly replaced. Based on our experience in 2005, he will likely be in the ICU until late Tuesday or Wednesday, and will spend the rest of his stay in the cardiac care unit. Overall, the surgeon expects him to be in the hospital 7-10 days. Ghon's shooting for 5-7.
.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as the day approaches. Each day brings new anxiety for us all.
.
I'll update everyone on Monday after surgery, and will send an address when we have it.
Thanks,
Kim, Ghon & Jonathan
