A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE

FROM THE SMITHS:
Hi Chiliheads,
I'd Like to thank you all so much for your concern over Smitty after the 2nd day of the AVI cookoff when he had to be rushed to the hospital with chest pains. The phone calls, emails and cards meant so much to both of us. I know all those well wishes got him back on the road to recovery and we truly appreciate your caring. Smitty has been resting up since then, so he'll be ready for the California State Championship cookoff in San Bernardino on May 2nd. Hope to see you all then. Again, many, many thanks to you all.....
Love, Virginia Smith (& Karl

WEDNESDAY - Apr 22, 2009

WHITTIER, CA REGIONAL

The weather was more summertime heat than spring, but we had a great turn out of cooks and public to make the 4th Annual Whittier Historical Society's cookoff a huge sucess. The volunteers were there by 6:00 to make sure the cooks and vendors got to their assigned areas. The event has outgrown the location and Rosalie, the Chairwoman, is looking for another venue so we can continue to grow.

Don Hammes really promotes this cookoff, and does alot to make sure it runs smoothly.

So, thanks to all cooks, and judges, who came to support this event. I want to give a special thanks to Patricia and Armando Sanchez who helped make sure the judging tables had everything that was needed. I forgot to have Don thank them at the awards ceremony, and I need them to be acknowledged. Also, thanks to Karen Ray and Barry and Sylvia Steinberg who helped me keep score.

Delaware Valley ICS Regional

Dear Chili Cooks:
.
The 4th Annual Delaware Valley ICS Regional Chili Cook-Off, Concert and Festival is scheduled for June 13, 2009 at the Gloucester County Dream Park, 400 Route 130 South, Logan Township, NJ 08085. .
Dave Lorenz is the Chief Judge, Steve Falkowski is the Assistant Chief Judge, Audrey Falkowski is the Chief Scorekeeper and Dorothy Lorenz is Assistant Scorekeeper. I am honored to have such a reputable group of judging officials to represent the Chamber's 4th Annual Chili Cook-Off.
.
The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Select, One Pureland Drive, Logan Township, NJ 08085. The phone number is (856) 467-3322. When you call ask for the Chili Cook-Off Rate of $99.00. There are other hotels in the area (listed on the website) with lower rates. The Holiday Inn Select is less than three miles from the Gloucester County Dream Park (site of the cook-off).
.
If you are flying in for the Chili Cook-Off, the Philadelphia International Airport is your best bet. Southwest has cheap flights from all over the Continental United States. The airport is twenty minutes from the Holiday Inn Select.
.
There is an Acme Supermarket in the shopping center less than a mile from the Holiday Inn Select (for your last minute grocery items). There is a Super Wawa in front of the hotel where you can gas up your vehicle and get a cup of coffee. If you need a propane bottle for your Coleman stove, there is a True Value Hardware Store less than three miles from the hotel.
.
All cooks will be reserved a 10' x 10' space under one of two pavilions. That means you don't have to bring a tent, set it up and break it down. No tents are aloud under the pavilion per the Fire Marshal. You can setup the metal frame portion of your tent if you would like to hang banners, decorations, etc. Each cook must have a 1A 10BC fire extinguisher. There will be two four-compartment hand washing sinks conveniently located by the cook pavilions. There will a.lso be two designated pot washing areas as well.

On June 12, 2009 the Chamber will host a one hour Cook's Reception at the Holiday Inn Select. All cooks will be treated to an open bar and a complimentary happy hour buffet from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. There will be live entertainment by a local favorite, Ron Hassinger.
.
On Saturday morning all cooks will be served complimentary breakfast sandwiches and coffee during the cook's meeting at 8:00am. Each cook will receive a goody bag including a custom event apron. There will be no electricity available to the cooks. There will be ice available for the cooks if needed. All cooks flying in for the event will have complimentary access to an eight foot table and two chairs (please reserve them in advance to insure they are available on the day of the event).
.
On Saturday evening, after the event, we plan to have an informal gathering of the cooks, families and friends to celebrate the winners and to tell lies about each other. I'm thinking good food and beverage and a whole lot of laughs.

Now it's time to sign up for the 4th Annual Delaware Valley ICS Regional Chili Cook-Off, Concert and Festival. Go to the website at http://www.delvalchilicookoff.com/ for more information. You can reach me at the Chamber office at (856) 881-6560 or on my cell phone at (609) 352-1728. On behalf of Chief Judge Dave Lorenz and the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce we appreciate your past support of the event and look forward to your attendance this year. I have attached the event flyer so you have more information about the Chili Cook-Off.
.
Thanks,

Rhone Carr
Event Chairman

Tri State Regional & AVI Regional

A very special Thank you to Louise Dinneweth for covering for me on very short notice. I'm back from Alabama and can't give you a lot about the two cookoff at AVI as I wasn't there. I hear that Louise and Val Gereghty did a great job. I'm also sure that Susie put together terrific events and pitched in wherever needed, Jim Maehl was his usual efficient Chief Judge, Ron Burt and Bob Dinneweth were working everywhere and Willma Maehl was a staple in the judging area (she even did the dishes before I got back to town). I never worried about these events as the caliber of the team is such that there was no need for concern and someone always steps in where needed. I thank you all for allowing me the freedom to spend the time with my family as should be.
