Wild Wild West Festival
and
Southern Colorado Regionals
.
Two great cookoffs were held in downtown Pueblo, Colorado, part of the Wild Wild West Festival's activities. Lots of bull riding was going on, the streets were lined with tons of vendors, and cowboys from all over the country came in for this event. The Professional Bull Riders (PBR), based in Pueblo, and the Chamber of Commerce, look forward to us coming back again next year.
.
The weather cooperated both days during the cookoffs, and the crowds were very large, sampling lots of People's Choice chili, which the cooks did an excellent job supplying. Over $1000 was raised for the charity, BAND, Inc. (Bessemer Association for Neighborhood Development).
.
Between all the sponsors and George Lott of Pueblo, two successful cookoffs were organized and details were worked out to create both cookoffs. Saturday night's Cooks Party at one of George Lott's sisters (Stephanie) bar, was a lot of fun for those attending. Saturday's 1st Place bronze Bull Rider statue trophies, and Sunday's 1st Place leather Bull Rider wall hangings were the envy of all the cooks.
.
A big thanks goes out to all the volunteers that helped out selling tasting kits, kept People's Choice ballots coming in, helped out in the judging area, and especially the help Kathy Plager received in the scorekeeping area. The judges we had, listened intently to the judges meetings, and did a very good job on writing comments on the chilis and salsas turned in. Many said they would return next year, because it was such a challenge to pick the "best" and the choices were all so different.

Kicks on RT 66 REGIONAL Chili Cookoff
.
Springfield, IL
.

Sunday - June 20, 2010

We are thrilled to now be back-to-back with the Sangamon County Fair Regional Cook-off in New Berlin, Illinois. So plan on staying over and cooking with us on Sunday June 20, 2010 at Kicks Entertainment Center ,2744 South Sixth Street, Springfield for a regional level cookoff . This event will benefit Brother James Court which is located on the east side of Springfield, Illinois, and can be found on the web at www.brotherjamescourt.com. We are celebrating 35 years of BJC, who has served as advocates for the developmentally disabled individuals with special needs. With our states financial crisis we can no longer become complacent thinking that Brother James Court, who house and care for 98 developmentally disabled men, is forever secure. My brother David has been loved and cared for by the staff for 26 years. I currently preside as president of the Association of BJC. Last year our 2009 Chili Cook- off proceeds enabled us to write a check to Brother James Court for $5,000, thanks to the chili cooks, Kicks Family Entertainment Center (www.kicksfec.com) and the overwhelming community sponsorship support. There will be contests for red, verde, and salsa. The cookoff will be outdoors and cooks should plan on bringing their own canopies/tents. If cooks need shelter contact the chairman for assistance.

Southside Chili Shuffle Regional
May 16, 2010
Taylorville, IL.
.
"Aldo" Klinghammer (Chairman) Of the Southside Shuffle Chili cookoff put together another fun cookoff and I might add some very tough competition with some past 5 World Champions in attendance.
.
This Regional Cookoff is held the day after the Lincoln Prairie Trail Regional in Pana, IL..........Makes for really easy and fun Back to Back Regionals.
.
The cookoff is held is a very nice grassy and some shaded area behind "Aldo's"
Bar. However, shade was not needed today.
.
We started out the early morning with a somewhat heavy rain. As the contestant were arriving, the heavy rain turn into a spring shower.
.
After everyone got their canopy's up, all hunkered down, and set up, the rain started to let up. By the time everyone started cooking the rain had stopped and held off the rest of the day until the cookoff was over and all had left. On the plus side we had no wind!
.
Several hundreds of dollars was raised for the Senior Citizens Center of Christian County.
.
SALSA 11 contestants
(9 judges)
3rd = Mary Thomas (Clinton, IL.)
2nd = Dearl Thomas ( " " )
1st = Tom Calvert (Taylorville, IL.)
.
VERDE 7 contestants

4th HM = Kelly Wessing (Farmersville, IL.)
3rd = Joni Deere (Pana, IL.)

4th HM Jess Curtin (Stonington, IL.)
3rd = George McMinn (Decatur, IL)
2nd = Jim Weller (Rockton, IL.)
1st = Tom Calvert (Taylorville, IL.)
.
We had some very excited and happy winners, especially Tom who completed his "Hat Trick".
.
"Aldo was very pleased with the turn out for the event and has already scheduled next years Cookoff for May 22, 2011. (mark your calendars)
.
Special thanks to Jeff and Julie Netser for all their work.

New Jersey State Chili Cookoff

.

and Salsa Festival

.

The thunderstorms and lightning Friday night didn't deter us from driving to Toms River, NJ for the 21st NJ State Chili Cookoff. We were confident that the storms would clear out. We awoke to sunshine and moderate temps. A perfect day for a cookoff. It did get a bit windy at times, but that was manageable. The cooks and the vendors held down tents for a time, but as the day progressed, serving all the spectators took over as the breeze subsided. We had a huge crowd as always and some enthusiastic judges. The Downtown Toms River Business Improvement District and Allen Consulting do a great job at this event and they have some very dedicated volunteers. We have the pleasure every year to work with Jane, Arleen, Denise, Linda and so many others, as well as many teens who devote their time to the events in this lovely town. Those cooks who have never been there should think about cooking there at least once.
