VERY SAD NEWS

.

ICS Advisory Board Member and longtime friend, Roy Palmer, passed away last Friday morning. What a shock it was to receive that phone call. Roy and his brother, Bob, attended the World's Championship two weeks ago and Roy was his usual jolly self. Roy had driven to Lake Arrowhead earlier in the week to visit friends and spent Thursday evening enjoying fine wine, the company of his friends and was singing along to Frank Sinatra tunes before calling it a night. Details of a memorial service and Palmer-style wake will be forthcoming.

Condolences may be sent to Bob Palmer, 421 Hillward Avenue, West Covina, CA 91791

UPDATE ON JOY BILOZIR

Sent by Kathy Plager

IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE RANDY AND JOY BILOZIR IN LAS VEGAS AT THE ICS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP COOKOFFS. JOY HAD QUALIFIED IN SALSA AND RANDY IN VERDE. THEY BOTH ENTERED THE "LAST CHANCE" COOKOFF ON FRIDAY, WITH JOY AMONG THE TOP 10 FINALISTS, WHICH QUALIFIED HER FOR THE WORLD RED CHILI CHAMPIONSHIP ON SUNDAY. JOY DID MAKE THE FINALS TABLE IN SALSA AND EVERYONE WAS VERY PROUD AND HAPPY FOR HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MAY NOT KNOW, JOY HAS BEEN DIAGONOSED WITH ALS, ALSO KNOWN AS "LOU GEHRIG'S" DISEASE. ALS IS A DISEASE OF THE MOTOR NEURONS, MUSCLE-CONTROLLING NERVE CELLS IN THE BRAIN & SPINAL CORD THAT CONTROL VOLUNTARY MUSCLE MOVEMENT. ALS FIRST AFFECTS LEGS, ARMS, AND/OR THROAT AND MOUTH MUSCLES, BUT ULTIMATELY AFFECTS ALL VOLUNTARY MUSCLE, RESULTING IN PARALYSIS.

JOY, RANDY, AND THEIR DAUGHTER LAUREN WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ALL OF YOU.

PLEASE KEEP THIS FAMILY CLOSE TO YOUR HEARTS AND LET THEM KNOW HOW MANY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE OUT THERE FOR THEM.

It was a beautiful weekend in Apple Valley. Dinner Friday night was delicious. Once again the Rotary Club provided plenty of good food and announced that in the last 6 years this cookoff has raised over $100,000 for their Children's Literacy Program. This year they will be donating a book to 1st graders and a dictionary to 3rd graders in the name of each cook, judge, scorekeeper and every other volunteer. Saturday morning begins with the Rotary again feeding everyone in the form of pancake breakfast to all the cooks and volunteers. Then things got busy… It seems they bought around $3,000 of air time and the station decided they could do better for a good cause and gave them around $30,000 of air time. The gates opened at 10am and people were running out of People's Choice by 11am. BIG crowd all day! Kathy Martin was one again Chairman ably supported by Tony & Donna Inglese. Tony was given the credit and blame for originating and maintaining this cookoff. Thank you Tony, we all love it. Jim Maehl was Chief Judge; Scorekeepers: Donnie Gordon, MaryEllen Weber, Louise Dinneweth and Nicole Caimi supported by Willma Maehl and Wranglers Phil Morosky and Carol Stiles and 3 young persons back for their 3rd or 4th year whose names I didn't get. This is another of the returning motor home cookoffs. After all of the cleanup we gathered around the fire pit for dinner (cooked by Tony's Mom) and camaraderie. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all the volunteers. See ya next weekend in Beatty, NV.

BEATTY, NEVADA - REGIONAL

.

Just a reminder for the chili heads coming to the Beatty Days Cook Off... When coming into town, speed limit is 70 and lowers quickly, to 45 mph, to 35 mph, down to 25 mph. Driving 24 mph is the best idea here in Beatty.

.

We are having a get together Friday night, (Halloween, one place is having costume party) and the Pot Luck on Saturday Night with Poker Tournament. See you all in Beatty!
