This year, the weather was colder, but at least the sun came out for the Main Street Heat Regional Chili Cookoff in Mt Airy, MD. The Main Street Association moved the cookoff a few years ago from the middle of downtown to a much larger place, the Mt Airy Fire Company Fairgrounds. The cooks were protected in the permanent booths from any rain, but it was the breeze and the cold they had to contend with this year. Ellie Bonde and Sharon Baharoff were the main contacts and really did a great job keeping cooks, vendors and judges all organized. We look forward to working with them each year.
Ghon and Kim Eckley were the cooks that got us involved in the cookoff and we were saddened by the passing of Ghons father just 2 days before. But in his Dad's memory, Ghon and his son Eric, showed up to cook.
We want to thank also the people helping us in the judging area. Les Walter did a great job as wrangler, helping set up and ready the tables. Dave Thomas came all the way for the west coast to visit family and wanted to judge. Well, he did that plus helped in all areas of judging. The best part, was he brought is grown niece, Ronnie, who, without ever having been to a cookoff, jumped right in and was a great worker. She was invaluable to this very busy scorekeeper. We hope to see "Uncle" Dave and Ronnie again next year.

Because of the large crowds that we get. I am asking the Chili Cooks to PLEASE bring extra People's Choice. I know it's a pain, but if we don't have chili, We can't sell tasting kits. Thank You in advance for your help and consideration. Also there is prize money for People's Choice. The Health Dept. will be there again, so please remember to bring your three tubs and sanitation stuff. Thanks.
