ABOUT THE BLOG

Subject: Dicks Chili News
As you have seen recently, I am only sending out one message per day. I am combining ALL the messages into a single message. At the same time as I send these messages out to you, I am posting the message to the NEW BLOG that I have started.
.
The BLOG address is Dick's Chili World
.
(Please bookmark this site so that you can keep up with ALL the future news)
I will cease sending emails to everyone but will continue to post almost daily to the BLOG site.
YOU WILL CONTINUE TO SEND YOUR MESSAGES TO ME FOR SENDING OUT TO THE BLOG. (To: GWTWChili@aol.com)
.
Features of the BLOG site:
1. Each day’s message will stay on the BLOG site for two weeks.
2. The BLOG will archive the messages by WEEK for 1 year.
3. You will NOT receive multiple emails from me on a daily basis.
4. You will NOT have to send multiple messages to me for sending out.
(Send ALL the information once)
5. If you skip reading messages a day, the messages are ALL there to be read.
6. At the current time the BLOG will not handle email ATTACHMENTS.
( Put the information in the message.)
For me:
1. I will not have the problems with the email addresses being incorrect as people change email providers. (Keeping track of 500 addresses is not fun.)
Also, I will not have to keep justifying to AOL that I am NOT a Spammer

Chili cookoff in Lake Ariel, Pa - Jim Miller
SATURDAY JUNE 10TH
NEPA 2ND ANNUAL DISTRICT CHILI COOKOFF & VEHICLE SHOW
Lake Ariel is a small town located in northeast PA, about 20 minutes from Scranton and it is easily accessible off of interstate 84 at exit 17. The lake Ariel fire company uses fund raisers to help us maintain our daily expenses since we have no funding from the town.
This is our second year doing the cookoff last year we had about 9 ICS cooks and another 8 or so fire department cooks for the fire department division. We are hoping that within the next 2 years we can make this event grow into a regional cookoff but for that we need your help. We feel that the cash prizes we our offering are of a nice amount that it makes it worthwhile to travel to the cookoff and for those of you wishing to stay longer we are in the popcorn's so there is lots to do either before or after the cookoff.
If any one needs info on camp grounds let me know there are a few in the area , also the Comfort inn in Hamlin has a block of rooms set aside for chili cooks you just need to mention you are here for the lake Ariel chili cookoff and will get a special rate.
If anyone wants more information you can contact me at
Jim miller 570-698-1440 or jwm52461@aol.com
THANK YOU AND HOPE TO SEE YOU HERE

City of Colton Unity Day Regional - Karen Ray
Yet another beautiful Spring day appeared last Saturday for the 2nd Annual Unity Day Chili Cookoff. Did I say Spring? It felt more like summer; temperatures were in the mid-80's! This event is a true community affair. There are displays from many City of Colton Departments, including a great turnout from the Fire Department. But talk about one-upmanshop---the Swat team showed up in their brand new customized Hummer, and in full Swat uniform!
Public attendance was excellent. They greatly enjoyed all of the vendors and music and particularly the People's Choice chili provided by the cooks. Wyatt Earp once lived in Colton, and we usually see some members of the family here. In fact, last year Don Earp judged for us. This year was lacking any activity from them, and we didn't think to ask why.
But the cooks had plenty to keep them occupied. All three contests were "hotly" contested for the outstanding prize money available for the winning. Bill Ray was Chief Judge. The Scorekeepers were Karen Ray and Mary Ellen Weber. Chairperson Judy Clarke is also a chili cook, as is her husband, Tom. They put together a super event. And the winners were:
People's Choice Chili, $100: Udo Winkler, Parrot Head Chili
Salsa (20 entries):
3rd, $100: Mike Ford
2nd, $250: Don Hammes
1st, $500: Jodi Wiseman
.
.
Chili Verde (11 entries):
5th, $50: Russell Barnes
4th, $100: Mary Nicoll
3rd, $250: Bob Wiseman
2nd, $500: Mike Austin
1st: $750: Mike Ford (finally, after four 2nd's in a row!)
.
.
Traditional Red Chili (20 entries):
5th, $100: Allene Macklin
4th, $250: Jim Rasey
3rd, $500: Mike Hulka (after a six-month layoff from chili competition)
2nd, $750: Don Hammes
1st, $1000: Sachiko Brecke

Inland Empire Regional - Karen & Bill Ray
Just two weeks to go until the 4th Annual Inland Empire Regional. Entries are a little slow coming in, but we're confident that we'll have a full complement of cooks on May 27TH. This is another excellent community affair with something for everyone.
For you who have not been able to attend, here's what goes on. We close off six blocks of Magnolia Avenue, one of the main thoroughfares in Riverside. At one end is a car show, at the other end the chili cookoff. In between is a craft fair (all homemade crafts), food vendors and lots of activities for the kids, including a pony sweep. On the main stage we are entertained in the morning by the La Sierra High School Jazz Band. At 11:00 "Cub" takes over for the rest of the day. "Cubo" is an excellent band, the members of which are all also members of the Riverside Police Department.
Estimated attendance the last three years has been 8,000 to 10,000 people! They are very appreciative of the People's Choice Chili offered by the ICS cooks, as well as the exotic concoctions supplied by the Community Cooks for their contest.
Excellent prize monies are waiting to be won, as well as trophies for 1st through 5th places.
.
Salsa: $300, $150 and $75
Chili Verde: $500, $250 and $150
Traditional Red Chili: $1000, $500 and $250
.
The best first-time ICS cook receives $250 and a trophy
The winner of the ICS People's Choice contest receives $250 and a trophy
.
Chief Judge is Steve Porter. Scorekeepers are Mary Ellen Weber and Donnie Gordon. Master of Ceremonies is Claude Covington.
.
If you're already qualified and can't cook, come on out and help with the judging! We need your help, and the cooks will appreciate it. We have a list of local motels with their rates, if you need accommodations.
Hope to see you there on May 27th.
Bill and Karen Ray
