Northern Arizona Back to Backs

Wow, April Fools day is here. But this is no joke, the 26th Annual Route 66 Regional and 38th Annual Arizona State Championship are coming up in June, just 2 and a half months away. Flagstaff is the home of the Route 66 Regional, to be held June 13 at Thorpe Park. There is once again a cooks dinner at Salsa Brava Restaurant on Friday night at 6:30 pm. Sunday, June 14, in Payson at the Mazatzal Casino is the Arizona State Championship. 2 Great cookoffs on one weekend in the cool pines of Northern Arizona. Hope to see you there.

Desert Rat Regional

.

When I got there Friday afternoon there were already at least 10 motorhomes set up. Even though the Stew Challenge had been cancelled due to lack of participants Mark Haught, Gary Nelson and Karl Smith made stew (Mark won by 1 point - They were all very good) and Marty Leitner made Salad and Garlic Bread. We all ate very well and had a great time.

.

Saturday morning started with breakfast for the cooks and volunteers. At the cooks meeting Phil presented me with an Official Ms Bitch bib and MaryEllen with a Bitch Trainee bib that Pat had made. Hence the day started with beautiful weather, a full tummy and a good laugh... That set the pattern of the day. Once again Morosky put together another great cookoff. Capt Jim Maehl did his usual outstanding job as chief judge and getting the motorhomes set up for the gathering. Scorekeepers were Donnie, MaryEllen Weber and Pat Morosky, plus we pulled Bobbie Gaul, Ellen Dyer, Patti Summers and Sylvia Steinberg to help with the scoring and/or to help Willma Maehl with the wrangling. Great team and the judges were laughing so hard at the idea Fred & Patti's brothel (bar opening Wed April 1) that we had to send a couple back for clarification or signature. They were still laughing when they corrected them. As always Mike Austin kept the fun going all day out in the cooking area. And the winners:
