Neighbors Helping Neighbors Regional

Results:

The chili weather gods smiled upon the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Cook-off on March 7 across the street from San Bernardino Community Hospital, no wind or rain, and great temperatures. The cook-off was associated with a Health Fair, the Catholic Charities of San Bernardino, and various community assistance programs. As usual the early bird cooks were there by 6:30 and by 9:00 we had a full contingent of 24 red, 14 verde and 17 salsa cooks.

.

The local citizenry turned out in mass, to partake of the chili, seminars and other freebies (the freebies did not include the scorekeepers pencils, but they kept trying). As Chief Judge, I was assisted by Claude Covington and Steve Wolf, their help was much appreciated. Bill Ray also provided much needed verbal assistance (due to his suffering sciatica). Head scorekeeper, Kathy Stewart was helped by Karen Ray, Maryellen Weber and Sheila Gordon.

.

By 4:00 the event was over, canopies and spectators were gone and only the chili announcements remained. Thank you to all who helped with this fun event.

Oak Tree Village Regional Cookoff

I am organizing the Oak tree Village regional cookoff in Oak Glen CA on March 14. Mike Austin suggested that I contact you because I still need some cooks for our event. I think the red chili competition will have enough entries but I still am not sure if there will be enough entries in the salsa and verde contests(I only have two confirmed for each at this point) I am concerned about the verde especially because Jim Stoddard wants to fly in from Texas to compete. I want to be able to let him know that there will be enough verde cooks as soon as I can so he doesn't waste the trip. Plus he also really needs that regional win. Anything that you could possibly do to reach out to some more cooks would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

The 2009 New England Regional Chili Cookoff is a short 49 days away on May 2,2009!

We will once again be offering a free breakfast to all of the chili cooks to start your day of cooking great chili off right.

We'll have great BBQ from several of the top BBQ places in New England, DEFCON Hot Sauces DEFCON hot wing eating contest, the ever popular "Chili Cooks Raffle" which gives cooks the chance to win a great gift as part of their goody bag and some of the best blues music you may have ever heard!

Springtacular Regional Chili Cookoff

Springtacular Regional Chili Cookoff will be held this year on May 2, 2009, at the Eagles Lodge, Clinton, IL. We will be on the parking lot and asked to bring table, chairs, and coverings.

Again there will be Red, Verda and Salsa. We are doing something difference with salsa. We lost one of our own this last year, a chili winner and salsa winner, and we would like to honor her memory with the Nancy Goodman Salsa Challenge. First place for salsa will be $250., second place $50, and third $25. I was asked if I would consider doing this and I am honored to be able to keep her memory alive by honoring her, and her little something that made her salsa special. Hopefully you can help us, remember her. Prize monies: Red Chili: 1st place:$500 2nd place:$200 3rd place:$100 Verde: 1st place:$100 2nd place:$50 3rd place:$25

Flyers will be mailed in the next couple of weeks. Chief Judge/Score Keeper Tom Calvert

Any information is available on the ICS website or through the cookoff chairman, Cathy Schmedeke spicegirl6@verizon.net

Hope to see you all there, if have any questions please let me know.

Thank you,

Cathy Schmedeke
