Delaware Valley Regional - Dave Lorenz
Here is a site that will be at the DVRCC chili cookoff.
.
Organizers of the Delaware Valley International Chili Society cookoff and festival are looking to expand their audience beyond South Jersey.
Promotional tie-ins with TV's FOX29 and WXTU-FM are aimed at drawing crowds from Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware for the second annual event, scheduled for April 21 on the 4-H Fairgrounds in Harrison Township.
Over 16,000 people sampled the chili created by 78 cooks at the debut festival in 2006. This year's goal is 125 cooks and 25,000 to 30,000 guests. The cooks will compete for nearly $5,000 in prizes.
The television and radio sponsorships will "broaden our range," suggested Rhone Carr, president of the event organizer, the Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce.
FOX29's Sue Serio is scheduled to broadcast weather information from the fairgrounds on April 19.
"Every 10 minutes, she will do a live broadcast," noted Carr. A series of promotional ads on the channel will also serve to raise awareness of the event to an audience across the Delaware Valley, Carr observed.
He expects the additional publicity will help "pull" more visitors from the other side of the Delaware River.
Students from Rowan University will conduct surveys at this year's festival to gain demographic information from visitors. Carr's eventual goal is to host the International Chili Society's world championships.
Advance tickets $10 a carload for the event have gone on sale. Tickets are available at branches of The Bank, the Susquehanna Bank branch in Mullica Hill, and the chamber's office in Glassboro. Tickets will be $15 at the gate.
Besides chili sampling, there will be a wing eating contest featuring former Wing Bowl champ "El Wingador" and activities for children.
Carr promises a "fun-filled day for the entire family."
Five charities United Way, People for People, the Boys and Girls Club, 4-H Fair Association and Habitat for Humanity will share in 50 percent of the proceeds.
For information, call the chamber, (856) 384-2655.

Big Juan
Oh - the miracles of modern medicine !! After all that work - they sent the mighty Big Juan home yesterday evening. To think - he has a "sipper" installed last Thursday PM - and he is home !! Simply Amazing !!
Thanks to all for the prayers and tequila sacrifices !! Keep up the good work. Say a few extras for Alexis. She is going to be taking FMLA every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to take "Mr. Daisy" to his weekly dialysis and other errands. (The Dr. won't let him ride in the front seat - or drive - for 5 weeks)
Oh - and on a chili note -- look for cook off info shortly. Once again - first weekend in June at the "Star". Plan on bringing some chili -- CD 105.9 will be our radio station sponsor this year. Announcements - 5 times a day - for two weeks before the event !! And - they will be on site on Saturday !!

UAW Region 1 vets Regional cook-off
Ok, Chili cooks
It is coming close to the time to get involved with the renamed North
Central Regional cook-off, now the UAW Region 1 vets. cook-off. I would hate
to waste a spot in the WORLD COOK-OFF because we do not have 7 cooks in salsa
or Verde and even 20 in red... this is a call out to everyone with in a 3 hr
drive to have a darn good chance to go to the world. We are within 4 weeks of
this event. I hope to raise the top prize cash the day of the event, if we
fill all the areas! This is some of the best odds any cook will have to
advance to the world!

So PLEASE let us know if you would like to cook any of the three
areas and we will keep you informed.

Thank You Chilihead Leo (Nuclearchili) Buk Co-chair

The 30th Mexican National Chili Cookoff Championship
Dear Friends, I have important news I need you to help me to get out. The 30th Mexican National Chili Cookoff Championship and the 7th Jalisco State Green and Red Chili Championships will be held on the 15th,16th and 17th of Feb. 2008 at Tobolandia. The 12th Mexican Salsa Contest will be on Saturday the 16th. The Cookoff Friendship Cocktail will be the 14th of Feb. at the Hotel Nueva Posada. Everything is being revamped for the new location. If you remember, Tobolandia is on the same side of the road as the past 6 years location but it is before the stoplight. We are meeting with the management today to set up all of the details. I believe that with the date change we will be within Presidents day and the weather will be less of a problem. Ever since I prayed about it for the cookoff it has stayed great. I feel so sorry to see what is going on in the states and elsewhere. Love and hugs to everyone. Ann and all of your friends in Ajijic.
Thanks, Ann Whiting

Chili by the Fountain - by Erin Heasley
I'm writing this e-mail as a reminder to all the cooks that People's Choice Chili needs to be ready to be served at 11 a.m. This is when the event opens to the public. As the cooks finish their other chili for turn in and want to add to or use as samples that's great, but something needs to be ready at 11a.m. to serve to the public. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEAE, WITH SUGAR ON TOP or should I say with chili on top have people's choice ready at 11a.m. Don't forget there is a $100 cash prize and also a trophy for people's choice. Thanks again to all the cooks and good luck! I
