Benmarl Windery District Cookoff

Saturday the 26th was hot and a bit humid, but no one could dispute the views from the cookoff site at America's oldest vineyard, at Benmarl Winery. It sits up on a hill overlooking the beautiful Hudson River to the east. The cookoff was a benefit for FRAXA, a Research Foundation setting out to find a cure for Fragile X syndrome. The cooks came and surrounded the fountain, making the place very festive for the spectators who wanted chili and those who came to taste wine, but ended up voting for their favorite chili. This is a great spot for a chili cookoff, the wine is fantastic, the music is great, and the cooks had so much fun.

We are looking forward to next year, as they will be applying for Regional status with the 20 red cooks we had this year. We hope to secure the date early and already Victor has ideas for prizes and gifts for the cooks.

.

The winners:

.

Pescadero Ca Cookoff

.

We are looking forward to the 1st. Golden West Chili Shootout in rustic Pescadero Ca. Come to the coast and escape the heat of the day and step into the heat of competition. We want to do a verde and salsa competition as well as Red chili. Anyone interested in doing salsa or verde please contact me and let me know. We have some cooks that will travel (from out of state) but only if there is enough for a legal cookoff. So its important to let us know in advance if you will be attending. This could be the sleeper cookoff of the year. Great cooks, great judges and great fun. Chief Judge: Dave Hipskind, Head scorekeeper: 2004 World Champion and soon to be Grand Master chili cook Kathy Hipskind. Come and be a part of it! Update on Jerry & Jean Simmons

.

Thanks to so many chiliheads and other friends sending prayers, thoughts and cards (We've never seen so much correspondence), our two time green chili champ came home yesterday. We've been truly overwhelmed by all the love, laughs, and thoughtfulness and once again realize how great our friends are.

.

We're both in therapy and will be for a while, but we'll both be at home.

We hope now, that Jill can take a big breath and get herself and her three young ones back to normal. She has worked, planned, taxied, visited, etc. and pulled us all through.

James and Jay have called daily to check up on old dad. We're blessed!

.

Our E-Mail is chilibyjerry@att.net so keep the messages coming! We love

you all. Thanks again.

CARSON CITY

.

Back2Backs July 3 & 4

.

Soroptimist International of Carson City came aboard two weeks ago as our charity when the former charity withdrew. Boy, what an active bunch of ladies! They have accumulated raffle prizes, assembled tasting kits, and recruited peoples' choice cooks, printed flyers, and canvassed the town promoting the High Sierra Regional on Saturday and the Nevada Capital Regional on Sunday.

We will again be cooking on the grass and under the trees at Glen Eagles Restaurant on the North end of Carson City. The weather is predicted to be in the mid-80's, at least 10 degrees cooler than the last several years. We've even arranged for a slight breeze for more comfort.

We need cooks in salsa, green, and red. If you are already qualified, come and help us celebrate the 4th and judge. Dry camping available at the site.

Plan now to come up to cool, sunny, and beautiful Winter Park, Colorado for 2 days of World qualifiers. For those flying in, flights can be booked into Denver at great prices right now. Saturday, besides traditional red, chili verde, and salsa, there will once again be a "Guac-off" Guacamole division. Prize money and a trophy will be given to the first place winner.

The cookoffs are at the base of the Winter Park Ski Resort, and it's one of the most awesome spots to cook at in the country (at 9000 ft). Rooms are available in Winter Park, with a 20% chilihead discount given when you call Winter Park Central Reservations @ 1-800-977-6198. Cook's Corner's Cookoff

Well the Cook's Corner's Cookoff is a thing of the past. We had a great turnout with 20 Reds, 12 Salsas and 12 Verdes.
