SATURDAY - Sept. 5, 2009

NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE

1st Annual File & Spice New Hampshire Regional Cookoff

.

The day was perfect. It was sunny with temperatures in the low 80's with what was supposed to be a mild breeze but turned out quite gusty at times. The venue was a recreational field set on a hill surrounded by trees. It was totally disconnected from the real world.

.

The day started out with a parade of fire equipment and classic cars. You could hear the sirens for quite a while before they made their appearance at the cookoff site. A classic car show and a fireman's muster were also part of the event and people came to see the muster and cars, as well as the cookoff. An early estimate was that about 750 people showed up for the cookoff which exceeded expectations.

.

Cooks came from New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire to cook at this event. 2007 World Champion Jerry Buma also came up just to judge. Thanks, Jerry.

Fire & Spice NH Regional

Well, the Inaugural Fire & Spice NH Regional Chili Cookoff is on our doorstep and it is looking to be a gorgeous weekend. Perfect weather for an absolutely fun filled day of chili, cars and entertainment. We are still looking for cooks and hopefully those who register will also participate in the Peoples Choice. And, as a special deal, we will be waiving the Peoples Choice registration fee if you register for the ICS competition. We have a minimum of 5 gallon rule, but are recommending 15 gallons for the sheer numbers we are expecting. You may still register through the ICS website, or you may come September 5th to the Wakefield Ballfields in Wakefield NH and register there. The address is 1334 Wakefield Rd in Sanbornville NH. When you get close, there are numerous signs guiding you in. We recommend you make your way to the fields by 830am as the parade steps off at 9am and you will be stuck in traffic.

There are approximately 50 cars registered to attend in the parade and the car show and the firefighters will be sparring against each other in the muster. Our entertainment is top notch for the day with the Crazy River Band and Jillian sharing the stage. We also have a special raffle of an autographed Tim McGraw guitar on September 5th....and, since he is in the area, he MAY show up to give it to you.

.

We count on you chili heads to help make this a successful first year and again, if you have thoughts of competing, please join us on Saturday and show off your cooking talent. You won't be disappointed.

.

Any questions, please call 603.522.2064. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
.

Yours in Chili,
.

CAMARILLO RANCH COOKOFF
There has been some confusion regarding the cooking times for Camarillo Ranch Cookoff Sunday 9/6. I was at the facility on Saturday and Joel Erickson is the Chief Judge and the cooking times will be:
Verde 10-1 and Red will be from 12-3;

NORMAL cooking times.

I think Yvonne had the judging meeting times mixed up with the cooking times. If anyone has any questions, please call me. 818-892-5034.

We have 19 Red cooks and 7 Verde signed up!! Thanks to all, and please everyone come out to help us judge!!!!

Thanks,

.

FORRESTHILL, CA District

Foresthill is still on for Saturday, September 5! Doubt we will have enough for salsa or verde, but if we do, we'll do it! We can use some red cooks, a beautiful park under the trees and on the grass. 12-3, as usual, come on up and get that 2nd District!

MARYLAND STATE

.

Hey folks,

.

Jim Parker asked me to run this out for anyone interested in cooking Maryland State on September 12th. If you are interested in cooking PLEASE register. I know that there are several cook offs going on this Labor Day weekend, and some of you might be holding out to see what shakes out. The county health department needs a list of names so they can get all the permits ready. Really this is just a formality and if it's all they want then please help Jim get a head count. Also there are already 4 cooks registered in the Gonzo Cup for already qualified cooks. This cook off is a winner takes all event. So shoot Jim Parker an email if you plan on attending. Thanks for your time.
