Silver State Regional - Bobbie & Norm Gaul
Well the Silver State Regional is now in the history books (at least the ICS history books). We had 22 Red Chili Cooks, 12 Verde Cooks, and 9 Salsa's. There were 5 States represented, NV, AZ, CA, ID, CO. The weather was quite warm, and the only bad thing was the wind blew like you know what, and we had to take down the judging tent and move everything to an almost enclosed space, Scorekeeping was done in Claude and Joyce's room. The Chamber did a great job of getting local people and businesses to participate in the People's Choice contest, they really get into it by decorating their spaces, and it also keeps the ICS cooks from having to bring People's Choice Chili. Next year we hope to have a back to back (Regional & District) and it will be held in one of the parks in town, (grass and shade trees). Will let you know more about that later. The after cookoff party was once again held at Norm and Bobbie's. We had more attendees then ever and served more food then ever, I was very happy to see everyone enjoying themselves. Ormly did his show for everyone, and as usual did an outstanding job.
WE WANT TO SAY A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO FRED WIELAND WHO STEPPED BACK IN TO HELP OUT NORM WITH THE CHIEF JUDGING DUTIES.
Now for the winners:
SALSA:
3rd Pl. Lenn Deevers
2nd Pl. Bob Wiseman
1st Pl. Eileen Beaty
VERDE:
3rd Pl. Jim Jordan
2nd Pl. Bob Wiseman
1st Pl. Barbara Ward
RED CHILI:
3rd Pl. Nancy Swenberger
2nd Pl. Sonny Allen
1st Pl. Eileen Beaty

NJ State Cookoff Results - Audrey & Steve Falkowski

The 2006 New Jersey State Chili Cookoff was another great success. After a week of rainy, cool weather, the sun came out and warmed every one up. Over 2500 spectators came to sample chili served by over 60 cooks. The $1000 first place prize for People’s Choice draws a lot of non-ICS contestants. The winning team made over 75 gallons of People’s Choice chili. There was also a nice prize of $500 for People’s Choice Salsa. The crowds loved that.

People’s Choice Red Chili winner: Matt Crossken

People’s Choice Salsa winner: Jeff Cousminer

There were 19 Salsa entries:

3rd – Jim Heywood, NY

2nd – Judy Omerza, PA

1st – Kim Eckley, MD

There were 16 Verde entries;

3rd – Kim Eckley, MD (Won a tie breaker with her husband, Ghon.)

2nd – Dan Bauer, VA

There were 40 Red entries:

5th – Stephen Moir (not sure where he from)

4thGhon Eckley, MD

3rd – Doug Johnson

2nd – Rich Omerza, PA

Ray Little - Bill and Karen Ray
We have been in touch with Mary Lou Little, Ray's wife. She says that he has not opened his eyes the last few days and that, today, he is not eating or drinking. He is on oxygen and a hospice caretaker is on the premises. He had a blood test last week; the only result that she was told is that his glucose is high, which it has been all along. He had an MRI last Tuesday, but she has been unable to get the doctor to call her back with the results. All in all it does not sound good. We will keep you updated as we are updated.
