SATURDAY - Sept 13, 2008

Maryland State.

When it rains all night in the Mid Atlantic in September, you can bet the next day will be unbearably hot and humid. Thanks Mother Nature. But like true troopers 27 Red chili cooks 14 Verde cooks and 10 Salsa cooks showed up at the Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick MD for the 2nd annual Gonzofest and Maryland State Chili Championship, Sponsored by The Flying Dog Brewery and Hard Times Cafe. By 9am it was in the 80's and the humidity was terrible but the cooks struggled through thanks to the unlimited supply of hand crafted Flying Dog brews. Money was raised for Heartly House. Heartly House is a local shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The final tally of money raised wasn't finalized and chili was still flowing well past 7pm. Also included in the festivities was the first annual "Gonzo Cup shoot out" between already qualified red cooks. This year there were only 4 entry's but hoping for m any more next year. The line of spectators was well over a block long for most of the day to gain entry into the event and from my perspective it was a roaring success. Here are your winners.

Ronald B. Mitre
I have a card showing my dad as one of the founding member's of the
International chili society. He fell asleep at the wheel of his truck,
on the freeway in Mt. Home, Idaho, about 10 years ago. He was buried
at The Mason's cemetary in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho.
.
If any members have any photo's of my Dad I would love to see them.
Also, I have many photo's, Ribbon's and awards from his Chili cook-off
days. It would be intresting to identify some of the people cooking
with him.
My Email address is

SUNDAY - Sept 7, 2008

Elaine Gianella Lloyd

To her beloved friends, relatives and friends of the family

.

Elaine Gianella Lloyd passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 7th, 2008 two days after turning 70 years old. She was in her home close to her husband, Walt and daughter, Lisa. We know you all were touched by her love.

.

Thank you for all your prayers because they sustained her and her family through many tough times and we know she has a special place in heaven. She was and always will be a strong, beautiful and very loving, caring friend of many throughout the country.

.

Funeral arrangements are being made through Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home in Lake Havasu City, AZ. A memorial in honor of her life will take place on Sept. 20th at 1pm at the Funeral Home in Lake Havasu City and in mid October in Torrington, CT. Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.liets-frazefuneralhome.com. Donations can be made in the name of Walter Lloyd to assist with the Mayo Clinic medical bills that accumulated during the four years of their supportive treatments.

.

May God bless you all and please know that Elaine is in a better place without any more pain and suffering.

.

Love,

Walt and Lisa
